The Mint - change you can wear
last time we talked about exactly how we
carve one of these signant rings from
wax and this time we're going to be
going over the details on how to turn it
into 14 karat white gold and the first
step is taking some sprew wax twisting
them together and then welding them
together with a wax pen and this is what
the Gold's going to travel through to
get to the signate ring once we have it
all welded together we're going to melt
the end of it and then add it to the tip
of our signal
once we have it on there we're going to
clean up the edges and make sure the wax
is connected everywhere exactly where it
needs to be then we'll cut any excess
[Music]
off now we'll shorten
[Music]
it and now we're going to attach it to
the base of one of our flight TKS so the
first thing we do is melt some sprw wax
in the middle of
it and then push it down into the melted
wax and then again clean up the areas to
where it's a nice smooth flow from one
to the other now we'll press our flask
down onto the base and wrap the top with
tape so that way the investment doesn't
get splashed around in the next step
[Music]
and now it's time to mix up our
investment and I'm using 5.3 flu ounces
of distilled water and this is a time
thing so we need 3 minutes of mixing
time and this is our investment it's RNR
Ultra vest and I'm using
404 G of it we're going to be mixing it
for 3 minutes
and once it's all mixed we'll Degas it
with our vacuum table and what we're
going to do is we're going to let this
get down to the lowest vacuum we can get
and then you'll see the investment start
to rise as soon as it starts to bubble
and then break
down hit it for about 10 seconds and
then it's all degassed
[Music]
now we'll pour it into our flask then
repeat the process again so vacuum it
it'll bubble and then break and then
we'll hit the table for about 10
[Music]
seconds once that's done we will leave
it set undisturbed for 2
hours once the 2 hours is up we can take
our tape off take our base off then put
it into our oven and we're going to be
putting it into our oven with the sprew
facing downward so the wax can melt out
of there and then burn off it's going to
be in the oven for about 10 hours and
while we're waiting we'll make some
casting grain and we're going to need
58.5% fine gold the rest of that's going
to be this white gold alloy here and
we're going to also add some 14 karat
white gold that I used last time which
is the sprw the button off another
casting we need to make sure this metal
is there so that way we can fill up that
sprew and that button and have a little
extra we always start by melting the
highest melting temperature metal first
which is fine gold once that's melted
then we'll add our alloy and once our
alloy is melted with the whole thing
we'll add our sprew and our button and
the reason we do this is that way we
know that there's nothing hiding in
there that's unmelted because that can
cause problems in bit of cast it'll also
make your Purity not exactly 14 karat
which is what we're always shooting
for you can see I'm moving it around
with a quartz rod that's to ensure that
there's nothing in there and that's also
removing some impurities will attached
itself to the quartz rod and get it out
of the mixture
[Music]
once we have that we pour it from a
distance into a full bucket of water and
this is going to create the casting
grains now what we do is drain off the
water and then pour our casting grain
onto a paper towel for it to dry
does dry and the flask is ready to come
out of the oven we'll grab our white
gold Crucible put it into our spincter
and then wind it up
and we'll put our flask in and we're
also going to put a piece of metal that
goes between the flask and The Crucible
and what this is going to do is going to
stop any gases from going through that
little hole into the flask we don't want
any impurities getting in there we'll
only take that little piece of metal out
of the way right before ready to let the
gold shoot into the flask
[Music]
at this point the metal now has been
forced into the flask by centrifugal
motion and we're going to check to see
it filled
[Music]
right then with white gold we let it sit
for about 5 to 10 minutes for it to cool
down before we quench it white gold is a
little more temperamental and can get
brittle and crack if you quench it too
[Music]
[Music]
early and now now we take our hay maker
saw and cut the sprew and the button
off keep an eye out for the next video
where we start to finish this thing up
