The "Lu You Family Instructions" is a set of teachings written by the famous poet Lu You for his descendants. It has been passed down for nearly a thousand years. Lu You (1125–1210), courtesy name Wuguan, was a native of Shanyin in Yuezhou. He was a poet and lyricist of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). Lu You's great-grandfather was Lu Zhen, the Grand Preceptor during the reign of Emperor Renzong of Song. His grandfather was Lu Dian, and his father was Lu Zai.
