Japanese attack California! Dad History: California World War 2
Japan attack the U.S. mainland? Where did the Japanese attack happen?
Liza Pattison gets a Dad History lesson as they explore the beach in Goleta, California where a Japanese submarine shelled the Ellwood oil field and derricks n February of 1942. After they uncover the spot they have lunch at the Timbers Roadhouse which was partially constructed from the wood of the pier and derricks that where destroyed in the attack. The attack happened only 4 days after the Executive Order that set up the Japanese internment camps.
Dad History at it's best and Liza survived!
Special thanks to Goleta History.com for some great information.
