CA Secret World War 2 Attack on the beach near Santa Barbara! Goleta oil field was the target. In 1942 a Japanese submarine fired on an oil filed in Goleta near Santa Barbara. It was the only attack o the continental U.S. during the war. Amazingly some of the timbers from the pier and derrick that were destoryed were used to build the Timbers Rodhouse and can still be seen today! #worldwar2 #militaryhistory #california
