Some authors believe that Mozart's Symphony No. 36 in C major 'Linz' is strongly influenced by Joseph Haydn. Alfred Einstein (1953) refers to a sketch leaf on which Mozart notated the beginnings of three of Haydn's symphonies, including Symphony No. 75 in D major with a slow introduction, which Haydn composed in 1782.

In the first and third movements in particular, sections with dotted rhythms (also) in the timpani and trumpets repeatedly appear, creating a march-like impression.
