Since we started filming for channels on Gan Jing World about 2 years ago, my husband and I have discovered a phenomenon. I searched for it on Google and YouTube, but to no avail. During two winters I tried to film it, my husband also tried to film it, but it seems to have succeeded only very few times. It's about the phenomenon of melting ice drops or dew shining in rainbow colours on the grass or flowers early in the morning or in the evening. As a child, I asked myself why prismatic colours can be seen in prisms, but not in drops of water in nature. It's not that they can't be seen, it's just that we don't often see them. On the day this video was filmed, it had been very cold earlier and was now very warm. The ice was melting from the branches and wherever the sun touched the forest, water droplets glowed in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and white. The whole border of the forest twinkled. I was so amazed that I didn't know what to think. I'd never seen so many colourful twinkeling drops of water before! But I couldn't just park the car and film where it shone most brightly in all the colours, because there was snow and ice on the road and the passing places were covered in snow from the snowplough. So I drove until I could stop. There were far fewer colourful, shining drops of water on the branches. I tried to capture them with my camera. But I never managed to capture them the way I would have liked. Here in the video, the water droplet that was glowing from the branch when I switched on the camera. However, if you look closely in the background, you can see how some of the drops in the trees behind change colour.

I often see rainbow-coloured drops now, in the grass after rain, in the dew in the early morning and I've even seen frost and snow glistening in rainbow colours. I will continue to try to capture the colours, usually the exact angle to the water drop is difficult to get with the camera, or the drop falls down.

Write in the comments if you have also seen colourful, glowing drops of water.

The video was filmed by Simone Schlegel and edited by Wenjing Ma.
