This piece by Schumann is called Dreaming.

But this description is not about the dreams we dream when we sleep. No, I want to write about the big dreams we had as children.

My greatest wish as a child was that I dreamed of returning to heaven. I didn't want to be here. Here on earth, too little attention was paid to virtues, which hurt me a lot. So I dreamed of returning to heaven.

This seems to be a not uncommon wish. In the book: Lehrreiche Gedanken mit kleinen Begebenheiten zur Bildung eines edlen Herzens in der Jugend, by Mathias von Schönberg, Munich 1792) there is the following fable:

"I must ask you a question, said the young eagle to a profound, sophisticated eagle owl. They say: "There is a bird called Merops, which, when it wants to take to the air, flies with its tail ahead, but with its head turned towards the earth. Is that true? "'Oh, this is a silly fable of man, who may well be such an adventurous Merops themselves, because he would only too gladly fly to the heavens for which he was created, without losing sight of the earth, even for a few moments. But precisely because of this he loses both the earth, because he was not created for it, and at the same time the heavens, because he cares less for them than for the earth."

I like this fable because it shows that if you want to go to heaven, you have to care about behaving and improving yourself enough to get there.
