Hi, this is Stéphane, and today I will read you a passage of my book, Little Miss Petals.
We pass the border the next day with no trouble. I'm never sure when I enter a new country
if everything is really different or if I just see things with different eyes.
At first, I am surprised by all the people walking on the road or being on their bicycles.
The traffic is very light even though we are on the main road between Senegal
and the capital Bissau. A real pleasure and a big contrast with Dakar.
At lunchtime, we stop at a tap with running water to take a shower. Some water on our body.
We are so excited about a tap as we've only seen pumps or wells so far.
A teenager sees what we are about to do so he brings us a proper bucket. He also opens
the door of his restaurant where a little room with mud is used as a bathroom.
We come out refreshed and clean with a nice smell of soap.
We're eating our lunch when some friends of that first guy arrive. They install chairs,
a tv and a massive speaker. The music, mostly from Nigeria, is a dynamic beat with some rap lyrics.
It's fun being part of that group of teenagers for a while. They make us try the cashew nut fruit.
The nut grows in a tree that can be quite high so it sometimes requires some climbing.
The cashew is in a light green shell surrounded by an orange red fruit.
That's it for today. I hope you've enjoyed this video and if you want to hear more stories,
you can watch other videos. Don't forget to subscribe to the channel and otherwise you
can also go on our website and order directly the book. See you next time!
