We leave the Al Wahda dam region, heading south, to discover our first Workaway experience in Morocco.
Well, where were we?
Stars in the sky, we set off and left the El Ouada dam area, heading south,
to discover our first experience of walk away in the Maroc.
But we'll talk about it in a moment.
The landscapes we cross during these 3 hours of driving are super impressive,
by their diversity and by a lunar atmosphere.
We really believe in another planet and we have a hard time knowing if we are rather on Mars or Pluto.
The dark sky filled with big clouds just above us and offers us a delicious average of 23°C.
We pass through sparkling wheat fields, lunar mountains,
bright red peaks, pink expanses and villages that melt into the mountains.
At 3 p.m., we arrive in the city of Ein Tauchtat.
We stop at the station to contact our future host.
And after a few minutes of waiting, we receive the indications to join the farm located 10 minutes away from the city center.
We follow Bob's directions and walk along this long track that leads us to a gate.
Here we are!
There is Moana who will show you where you park.
Don't take me there though.
Ok, no problem.
Mohamed and Abdelkader are there to welcome us and show us around the property,
the gardens and introduce us to the many animals of this enchanted farm.
We settle down and in the evening we meet Bob who wants to stay anonymous.
He shares with us the many twists and turns that this place has experienced in recent years
and explains to us our possible missions for the next few days.
During this week, we will mainly do work in the garden.
We start by building a giant barn to welcome the compost,
a few branches of walls, a few boards of recuperation, a little cement to consolidate everything and that's it.
Our first work is ready to welcome the compost from the farm.
The construction is in full swing, but it seems to be holding up, Inch'Allah!
So this is what we are going to use to make the drill work.
There is a solar panel just up there.
We made a small connection with extensions and Vincent has the drill in hand.
A kind of compost.
Yeah, it works!
We will also try the job of landscaper by planting many plants and taking care of the decoration of the gardens.
It's a wreck!
Today and not tomorrow, there's no time to fight.
It's a pleasure to work with allergies.
So we have to get rid of it unfortunately.
It infests all the poor cacti of Morocco.
Are you the culprit?
Painting, gardening, bad grass, sick cacti ...
In short, we will spend hours and hours in this magnificent garden under a leaden sun.
As the days go by, we become more and more efficient.
One day, Bob returns to the Foujoua farm.
He just found two boxes of Renault 4L in great condition for 400 euros.
We are very surprised to discover how different the gear shift is than on our recent cars.
Have you ever seen that?
No, I didn't know that we had to shift gears with a pommel that was in front.
As the days go by, a beautiful relationship will be born between Bob, Abdelkader, Mohamed and us.
Beautiful evenings of sharing to exchange on their life and experiences.
In a Morocco where we still don't know a lot of things.
They will help us learn our first bases of Derija, the Moroccan Arab.
So shukran to them!
Thursday, it's market day in Ain Taoujdat.
We go to discover this 0% tourist spot.
We really feel like aliens who happened to fall into the cattle market by chance.
Once our fruits and vegetables are bought, we continue the day by exploring the city of Fez.
We walk along the ramparts of the Medina and discover one of its large imposing doors.
We wander in its narrow alleys and we go from the hustle and bustle of the shopping streets
to the calm of some shops.
Entering a clothing shop, we find a staircase at the bottom of the store that we borrow.
We go up a few floors and here we are at the first shop of the famous open-air tannery in Fez.
Fortunately, we are given mint leaves at the entrance to cover the ambient smell of fields and shepherds.
It's super impressive to see these men mixing by hand in these stone cups
the different products and dyes necessary for the manufacture of leather articles.
Here, no modern machine, everything is done by hand or with the feet.
The skins are treated for several days with natural products
and then sold throughout Morocco.
At the start of Fez, we bypass the city by the heights to try to find the official spot
where the ceramics are made.
Bob has to buy a lot of skins for the farm and we therefore look for the source to order at the best price.
After a few minutes on the road, we are propelled into a working-class city on fire.
Black smoke escapes from all buildings.
We believe ourselves in a city at war or in a Moroccan version of Mad Max.
The impressive flames guide us from factory to factory until Bob finds a huge stock to buy.
After a few negotiations, we will fill the box from the ground to the ceiling and from the trunk to the front of the car.
I think I'm in a hurry, I have to wait for the 12 works to finish.
And we get out of the 12th box with 50 cars.
It's nice, especially the trunk there, it's really nice.
Now we still have to see if the car starts and if the tires hold.
Yeah, follow the next episode.
The last days on the farm are peaceful.
We continue to advance our projects in the garden at the rhythm of the speakers.
Get some rest...
We thought that cats were independent beasts, but there...
It's all fake, all fake, human addiction.
With all this, we can't write our videos, we can't record voice-overs.
So that's it, it's because of the cats.
But we still love them.
I think she has LBBs.
We also try a brand new type of mount to see if we exchange Falkor.
But we are really not very convinced.
Finally, after a week, we decide to do our business out of fear of taking root in this eponymous farm.
The sunset of our last evening is memorable and the sky above the farm is on fire.
We say goodbye to Bob, Abdelkader and Mohamed and continue our road south.
Once again, filled with these beautiful encounters and these good moments shared.
Life is so beautiful when we manage to extirpate from the financial world to return to trading and exchange of services.
We are so happy with this balance that we manage, over time, to create and which allows us to travel for a long time in another system at a lower cost.
The chance of encounters and the learnings that result from them are a beautiful way to grow and flourish in this vast world.
Follow the rest, but all this is another story.
