'The toughest sport on dirt': Bull riders, spectators prepare for 2024 Cowtown Rodeo in New Jersey
the Cowtown Rodeo will celebrate opening
day next Saturday it's the longest
running PRCA Rodeo in the country
thousands of fans will head to piles
Grove Township New Jersey to catch a
glimpse of what bull riding is all about
here's an inside
[Music]
look I like to think that we bring that
sense of Americana
[Music]
you get out of your truck and you look
here at 4:00 and people are already here
it's got some type of History my name is
Lauren Punk and I'm at the C toown rodeo
in ctown New Jersey what makes it so
historic is this is the longest
continuous running PRCA Rodeo in the
country right here in Southern New
Jersey Straight From Brooklyn Straight
From Brooklyn well I'm not a cowboy but
guess what there's a lot of cowboys here
you good thank you you know we're going
on you know now six Generations uh but
none of that could have been done
without the fan base you can put on a
show all you want for six Generations
but unless you have fans that want to
keep
coming just it doesn't work R fans how
we feeling on Saturday night we ready to
have fun
[Music]
[Music]
it's not a matter if you get hurt it's
when and it's how
[Music]
B hi my name is Charles ay I'm a uh
professional bull rider in the PRCA I've
always had that fear in me like what if
this goes wrong what if this goes wrong
but you have to let your love for the
sport conquer that and get over yourself
like it's it's truly amazing
there's no other feeling like it in the
world it's the biggest rush you'll ever
get it's a very fine line between fear
and joy out there my name is Blake go
and I'm a professional BL Rider it's
just something about it that just it
seems to get in our blood you can't get
it out of your system it's almost like
an addiction I would guess I'm Ronald
Burton I'm a professional rodeo clown
barrelman
Entertainer and tonight I'm going to be
bringing the laughs at the Historical
Cal Town Rodeo
tonight our job mainly is when the rider
either gets bucked off or or rides for
the full eight seconds it's our job to
kind of take control of the bull and
kind of take him away from the rider as
he gets off and and kind of be his
bodyguard in some sort it's the toughest
sport on dirt it really is it's it takes
a special person to want to do this I
just love it like the adrenaline I've
done a lot of crazy things in my life
man but the rush that you get when you
do this but it does take a special
purpose to do it oh he's not done
playing I rooted for the cows and the
cow's
wi got a little New Jersey snot on the
back of his Tas Bridges these Rodeo
animals people think what they want but
they're some they're some of the best
cared for animals out there they really
are and we love them we take care of
them it's just a matter of being nice
and easy with them and knowing what to
do in the proper procedures and you look
out into that parking lot and you just
see the line of people it's just there's
no other better reason to to keep doing
what you're doing there's nothing more
in this world I want to do I love bull
riding so much it's my passion and my
life and this is what I'm going to do
with my life you get to come here and
watch it you know actually get to see it
and view it and experience it and it's
something special when you're sitting I
don't care if you're back here or over
there you can feel the energy from
inside this Arena the animals the power
the intensity of the sport uh it makes
it kind of special the people that you
meet traveling around and doing that are
truly amazing
and this is one of those sports that
people are great and they always will
be that's a spectacle you don't want to
miss thanks for joining us here on
