Shennong
Shennong, which could be translated into Divine Farmer, also known as the Yan Emperor, of the Jiang clan, was born on the banks of the Jiang River approximately 5500 to 6000 years ago. He is revered as the "God of Medicine," the "God of the Five Grains," the "First Emperor of the Five Grains," the "Great Emperor Shennong," the "Earth Emperor," and other titles. As one of the Three Sovereigns of ancient China, he is legendary for inventing agriculture and medicine. He tasted hundreds of herbs, hence the legend of "Shennong tasting hundreds of herbs." He is the deity in charge of medicine and agriculture, believed to bless agricultural harvests and the health of the people.
