We are in Verona, here’s the garden...
Excuse me! In Verona yes, we have said it before! We are in Verona!
Where are we? In? Piazza Bra!
Ooohh good boy!
We are in Verona, yes!
We are in Piazza Bra. (Square Bra)
Behind me there is a little garden.
With the fountain, very beautiful, benches...
I remember I was here when I was a kid.
Every Saturday I was here, I used to take the same tour over and over again.
Most epic thing is that we have fountains with free water.
It’s not certain this in all the big italian cities.
There! There is a beautiful fountain!
Let’s go to see it!
We are both there! We are both there!
Look! What a beauitful fountain!
I remember, perhaps, last time I came here it was not working.
I do not remember.
Maybe... This one is turned on only during Spring and Summer.
It’s not always on!
During winter, for example, it’s off.
It’s very cute with these flowers and plants!
I’m going to challenge you.
Let’s go!
How do you call these flowers?
It’s the Wild daffodil! [In italian it’s named Daffodil Big Trumpet (Trombone)]
I see! There is Daffodil and the Trumpet!
It’s sunny, let’s go to see the Arena!
We are in front of Arena, and there are a couple of things I wanted to tell.
So, why we call it Arena!
We call it Arena, because in latinum Harena meant sand.
It was pronounced always Arena, but with H, be careful, it takes it personal (Joking)
So, it means sand.
Why is this?
Back in the days, of course, inside the arena there were fun shows
So there were animals, gladiators who were fighting...
So, there was blood and filth everywhere.
So they used sand as ground, so they could change it between a show and another.
That’s why they called it Harena, because of this sand.
Arena, at the beginning, was built in the first century.
And it was outside of city’s wall.
What happened?
Emperor Gallienus choose
to include it inside the walls of the city, since he had to stop barbarians invasions.
If it was outside, that could be an obstacle.
So, what did he do?
He had built an enceinte to include it inside the walls.
I’m testing!
Where are we going?
We are going in Piazza Erbe! (Market's square, in italian: herbs square)
I think we need more wide angle!
We are in front of San Nicolò all’Arena Church, It’s its name because
The ancient name refers to a nearby
underground connection with the Arena of Verona
The square is home to several significant historical monuments.
The oldest one is a fountain
with the statue of Madonna Verona, dating back to 380 AD.
Madonna was an appellation used in medieval times for noblewomen.
It holds a scroll with an inscription dedicated to the city.
Maffei Palace on the west side, is a baroque building
adorned with statues of Greek gods.
Also present is the lion of St. Mark, the symbol of Venice.
Venice lives!
The Monument to Italic Civilization,
Commemorates bombing victims
Austrian during World War I.
The Domus Mercatorum, or House of Merchants,
was home to medieval guilds,
and it shows a statue of the Virgin Mary and Jesus.
The last one is l'Arco della Costa.
Well yes, that is a rib, probably a whale rib.
It is still not known why there is a whale rib hanging that arch.
It was probably used as a sign for a pharmacy in medieval times.
In fact, it was thought that the powder of whale bone had health benefits.
We are going to San Pietro Castle.
Step by step we will make it,
Meanwhile, everything here is beautiful!
We are in Castel San Pietro.
The name is very distinctive, in fact initially in Roman times.
was called Mount Rooster, and there were simply a temple and a theater.
Only in medieval times it is called San Pietro Castle.
because a church dedicated to St. Peter was erected.
The special feature of the place is that, in addition to having
in short a beautiful castle, there are even dumpsters right in front.
look at this! The beauty of this castle...
With dumpsters!
C’mon guys
Let's go down, Davide is waiting for us,
That we finally interview him and he will be in our video.
