It was a cold winter's evening, I was driving in the Simmental and stopped when I saw this beautiful evening glow on the Drunegalm and just had to film it.

The Drunegalm 2'408 m is a double peak (but only one is visible here) with sheep pastures on the west and south sides. It is the easiest summit to reach on the Niesen ridge.

Its name still reflects an old belief. "Drunen" means dragon. In the past, it was believed that the mountains were inhabited by evil spirits and dragons. The mountains were only climbed by those who had no other choice. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find out if Drunegalm is a dragon mountain. But one thing's for sure: it wasn't until the 19th century that people started climbing mountains for fun. Some rich people even had men carry them up the Niesen in an armchair, after a good shelter had been built to protect them from the wind and weather. Everything had to be carried up, and it was only later that the Niesen Railway was built, which still carries tourists up the Niesen today.
