2022年3月22日，韓國海軍和現代重工集團在蔚山造船廠爲“大邱”級護衛艦“春川”號舉行了下水儀式。“春川”號是現代重工和大宇造船海洋工程聯合建造的第8艘“大邱”級護衛艦，也是最後一艘。
同戰列艦、驅逐艦、巡洋艦一樣，護衛艦具有悠久的歷史。經過不斷髮展，當今的護衛艦艦載設備更加先進，火力更強，綜合作戰能力更強，執行任務更加多元，從而贏得各國海軍普遍垂青，逐漸成爲當前建造數量最多、分佈範圍最廣的海軍艦種之一。近些年來，韓國海軍逐步放棄了直接奔向大洋深處的目標，把眼光重新放回了近海以及配合美軍的海上行動了，而這種多用途護衛艦是最適合韓國海軍的。
