談起IDF經國號，我們不得不提，美國最早對臺拒絕出售F-16A/B，所謂生於憂患死於安樂，經國號的出現，是內外原因造成的，本期我們就來聊聊，IDF經國號自發研製的4大理由。

第一：臺灣空軍裝備的F-104，F-5日漸老邁，急需進行更新換代，當時，美國的F-16A/B戰鬥機，但美方拒絕出售。在此背景下，不得不進行自行研發
第二：民進黨政府在上臺之後，需要振奮一下士氣，宣示開展"國機國造"、"國艦國造"等措施。臺灣軍隊的規模和經費有限，不能像日本與韓國那樣在採購美國軍備之外還能大量開發自制的軍事裝備，而臺灣技術發展最爲成熟的各式導彈，則是事涉敏感，不太能夠公諸於世。
第三：臺海局勢不穩定，一旦臺海戰爭爆發，空防是臺灣防禦的關鍵。臺灣空軍現有143架F-16、56架幻影2000-5、144架F-CK-1戰鬥機，都在1994-97年間開始服役。另有62架F-5E戰鬥機，作爲二線使用。即使不算已經老舊的F-5E，按照正常使用，所有戰鬥機也應該在2040年前替換。臺灣計劃在2020年代展開下一代戰鬥機的設計，最遲必須在2030年左右投入量產，以避免戰鬥機缺口，時間上不容閃失。
第四：蔡英文試圖增強臺灣軍力，計劃在2018年預算中，把臺灣軍事預算增加50%，從GDP的2%增加到3%。具體細節尚未確定，從而助力“國機國造”。
