The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation or APEC was at its peak in San Francisco, California. Many heads of state and CEOs are in town as well as many protesters. NTD's Jason Blair brings us an update. @JasonBlairNTD
I'm just outside of the APEC security zone in downtown San Francisco. There were protests
happening on Tuesday, with more today around this area and other parts of the city.
Protests started to heat up on Tuesday outside of the hotel where China's leader Xi Jinping
is staying. Protesters against the Chinese Communist Party or CCP's human rights abuses
met with pro-CCP groups. The pro-CCP group is reported to be hired by the New York Chinese
consulate. President Biden met with the Chinese leader on Wednesday.
A few hundred pro-Tibetan protesters marched up 5th Street downtown midday Wednesday. They
were shouting, Xi Jinping is not welcome here, down with the CCP, and free Tibet.
Other protests are happening as well, such as pro-Palestine groups calling for a ceasefire
with the Israel-Hamas war. At times, some areas saw traffic at a standstill.
On Wednesday, outside of the downtown APEC security area, a few groups of Falun Gong
practitioners were holding banners calling to end the CCP's persecution of the practice
in China. This man vandalized one of the group's radios. I then took out my phone and started
filming him, trying to deter any more vandalism, but he still came back and grabbed one of
the banners. He then turned around and took a swing at me, aiming for my phone. Just then,
a plainclothes police officer restrained him and got him to leave the area.
