Jiujinshan officials recently voted to pass a motion
urging the traffic department to ban vehicles from turning right in the city
in the hope of strengthening the safety of passers-by.
According to the report of the State Highway Safety Association,
more than 7,500 people died in a traffic accident in the United States in 2022.
This is the highest number since 1981.
However, Jiujinshan is not isolated.
Large cities including Los Angeles, Seattle and Denver have also considered implementing bans.
But opponents believe that the ban will not only cause inconvenience to drivers,
but also reduce the efficiency of bus and truck.
According to the data released by the board of directors of the U.S. Drivers' Association,
in 2011 to 2019 in California,
one pedestrian died in a red light turning right,
while fewer cars died.
At present, most areas in New York City do not allow red lights to turn right.
The U.S. Department of Transportation also approved this ban last year.
