This is the original T-Mac.
The origin of T-Mac.
T-Mac before delivery chicken.
The reason why I can see the weather in New York is
It was raining earlier, so my clothes were all wet.
I'm wearing sunglasses right now.
It's sunny again.
How dry it is
The clothes are dry.
Korea has been rapidly Westernized for the past few decades.
But Western culture
I still think it's a Western culture.
It's just a part of our popular culture.
There are cultures that feel like Korean culture.
Downtown or Upper East Side
Upper West Side culture
I enjoy it luxuriously.
I know it's a foreign culture.
I think there are many cultures that enjoy it.
Compared to that, the culture that came to Korea from Harlem.
There are many cultures that are similar to Korean culture.
For example, B-boy dancing
A little north of Harlem
It was the first trend in the Bronx.
Our country is B-boy dancing
It's sweeping the world.
Hip-hop has become the favorite music genre for Koreans.
Hip-hop beats play a very central role in K-pop.
But in my opinion, among the Harlem cultures
Koreans are so part of our culture.
I don't feel like a foreign culture at all.
Rather, in a way, there is a culture that is unique to Korea.
What is that?
It's chicken.
Originally in the United States
Where you can eat the most delicious fried chicken
Then it was Harlem.
There are two famous places in Harlem.
There is a place called Sylvias over there.
There is a place called Red Roost here.
I was thinking about where to go.
Sylvia went to Mr. Baek Jong-won a while ago.
I will go to Red Roost.
There is a bar section and there is a dining section inside.
What's really interesting here is
Harlem and what we call soul food
The food that African Americans usually eat in the South America
It has a very deep relationship.
For example, the fried chicken we know
In a batter with various spices
It's called American fried chicken.
That's the original Cajun food.
Cajun food is
Mississippi River, where French people used to live
Louisiana or Alabama
It's a food that these people eat.
Between 1910 and 1970
There is a case called Great Migration, which is very important in American history.
The separation of races in the South is so strong
Black people are moving to the north.
In a way, New York is a city of immigrants.
Black people are not the only immigrants.
In a way, they are immigrants.
To avoid the bloodshed in the South
A lot of races live together
I moved to New York.
Then they brought their food.
Through Harlem
For the first time, people in northern cities
I'm going to eat fried chicken.
And these people
It's a food that contains the soul of the old hometown.
This food was originally called soul food.
What is very symbolic here
There was a speakeasy called Red Rooster.
In the actual golden age
It's a place where necking calls and amazing early jazz musicians performed.
Harlem Renaissance
Let's revive Harlem again.
A man named Mark Samuelsson set up a restaurant here.
Another very cool story is
Harlem is the center of gospel music and jazz music.
Except for that, you can't make Harlem atmosphere.
So Sunday morning at 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock in the afternoon
It's called a gospel brunch.
If you look here, the chicken is called Yard Bird.
If the chicken is walking around in the yard,
You can order leg meat, breast meat, and thigh meat.
I ordered this in pieces and I thought it was funny.
We are a nation of one chicken per person.
Would you like to eat this in pieces?
I ordered two pieces.
American chicken size and Korean chicken size
It's not the same chicken.
I'll show you one drumstick and some sides.
So I'm just going to get one chicken drumstick.
And then I'm going to get creamy stone ground grits.
And then I'm going to get blistered heirloom tomatoes.
Can I drink for you?
You guys have some local beer, right?
Harlem IPA, yeah, of course.
So this is local, right?
Local, yes.
Beer made in Harlem.
That looks awesome.
Out of all the beers I've had in D.O.,
Harlem and Bronx are the best.
Brooklyn beer is...
Producer, producer, give it to me.
Thank you.
I eat corn bread, not wheat bread.
Corn grows a lot in the south.
And in Mexico, corn is the staple food.
They gave me this corn bread with tomato and corn sauce.
I told you the chicken was big, right?
The biggest chicken leg I've ever seen.
I'll cover my face to see how big it is.
I'll cover my face.
I won't.
It's not that big.
Traditionally, before Europeans came to the U.S.,
Native Americans ate corn, especially in the Mississippi Valley.
Maybe that's why corn is the staple food here.
There are two staple foods in southern food and Harlem soul food.
Corn bread and grits.
Mashed corn made with corn.
It's a full day.
You see how nervous I am?
It's heavy.
It's between mashed potatoes and polenta.
Oh, polenta is corn, too.
I'm going to eat chicken.
I'm talking about the outside and the inside.
This is the outside.
Look, look, look, look, look, look.
It's too big.
I took a bite.
60% of the fried clothes?
If you want to make a restaurant that combines performance and food,
It's called Marcus Samuelsson.
It's kind of like a cold noodle in Korea.
When that program comes out, it becomes a star chef.
He was a former program called Iron Chef.
Here's Iron Chef.
I'm very proud of Marcus Samuelsson's restaurant.
But when I look at this,
Southern soul food.
Cajun Spice
I really enjoyed it.
If you break the batter,
It tastes like spices.
This spice.
That spice.
It's like a flame.
This neighborhood is...
The food is hot.
The music is hot.
People's personalities are hot.
It's a Hallam chicken.
Hallam chicken.
This is the original chicken.
The origin of chicken.
Chicken before there was a delivery chicken.
A lot of people are curious.
There was a time when there was no delivery chicken.
Today, we're going to fill it up in Korea.
It's the origin of Western culture that we're enjoying.
I've made a lot of content about the Hallam culture.
The chicken is waiting.
I think we should wrap this up now.
I'm sure a lot of people are curious.
There are a lot of people who turned on the delivery app.
I'm going to enjoy the Hallam chicken here.
In the next episode,
I'll tell you more interesting cultural and historical stories.
Goodbye.
