Crossing the Vallee Blanche — From Torino Hut to Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix (Part II.)

June 8, 2023 • Vallée Blanche was on our list for some time. This massive alpine glacier that spans from Italy to France, and from Mont Blanc down to Chamonix is an amazing playground for both climbers and skiers. We arrived late in the season for skiing to be safe or even doable, and so decided to traverse it on foot.

We spent the night on the Italian side in Torino Refugio at an elevation of 3,375 m (11,073 ft)with a beautiful view of Mont Blanc. After breakfest we headed out north towards Aiguille du Midi. Fresh snow made vallee pristine and glistening. In our plan was to climb Aiguille du Toule (3,534 m, 11,594 ft) right on the border of France and Italy, and then cross the crevassed glacier. Weather cooperated and made it beatiful and challenging day.
