We are often taught that this world is very violent, especially in the business world, and if we want to succeed, we have to compete with others and get what we want.
But is this theory completely correct? Is there any other way, less violent, but still able to lead us to success and perfection?
Yesterday, Tham read a very interesting book about this problem on the Tinh Doan book app.
Its name is similar to a fairy tale that we heard when we were young, which is the story of Khoi Van.
In today's video, we will analyze this book together.
So what kind of people do you like to recognize?
According to the author, they are people who like to be highly evaluated at all times and everywhere.
It seems that their primary concern is to earn as much money, status and admiration as possible.
They have a unique tendency to use strong words to convince others, while not caring about the ethics and feelings of those around them.
Why is that?
For these people, it's simple, the world is very violent, life is a cruel game, and we have to compete, we have to fight to get what we want.
And the author gave an example of this type of person, Kenneth Lay, the former CEO of the giant energy company Enron.
He sold 70 million dollars in shares to benefit his father before the company went bankrupt and left 20,000 people unemployed.
The second is the type of person who likes to let go.
According to the author, they are proud of their knowledge and time.
They often let go of their personal struggles for the common goal.
Their focus is to provide value to others, and whether the help is reciprocated or not is not too important.
Because their biggest reward is to make themselves feel happy.
An example of this case is Jack Mayer, a writer who won an Emmy Award for The Simpsons.
He often encourages other writers to use their ideas without asking for a fee.
Although he has directed more than 300 episodes of The Simpsons, he has only worked on 12 episodes.
The third type of person is the exchange person.
Simply put, people like to let go.
Their biggest goal in negotiations is to be fair and equal to all parties.
When an exchange person helps someone, they want to be reciprocated.
If not, they will feel unfair.
On the contrary, if someone helps them, they will find every way to repay, because they feel it is their duty.
And most of us in life are exchange people.
Common knowledge affirms that to succeed, you have to get what you want.
However, historical examples show that when people regain their dignity, they will lose their respect.
When this happens, their reputation will be reduced, endangering their chances of success later,
because others no longer want to interact with them.
To clarify this issue, the author gave a typical example of the case of Jonas Salk.
With the help of the research team, scientists, thousands of medical experts and volunteers,
he successfully developed the vaccine.
But the problem is that during the press conference, he did not thank his colleagues.
This disappointed them.
But he had to pay for that selfishness.
He was never introduced to the National Academy of Sciences and was not awarded the Nobel Prize.
Some people believe that it was because he did not recognize the efforts of his colleagues,
that he did not receive these noble titles.
And it is clear that for those who like to regain their dignity,
they lose their reputation, lose their opportunities to develop later.
And especially, colleagues and friends around may never want to work with them again.
Many people believe that to succeed in business,
giving away will have more benefits than receiving.
This is especially true in difficult traditional professions such as business and politics.
And now I will try to analyze the two examples that the author gave in this book.
The first case is that of former US President Abraham Lincoln.
Actually, before he became president, he quit the race to the Senate
so that his competitor, Raymond Chamberlain, could win.
Why?
Because at that time, both of them had the same goal, which was to get rid of slavery.
But the opponent had a higher chance of winning.
And after Chamberlain entered the Senate, he thanked him by saying
that next time he would support Lincoln to run for the Senate again.
The second case is that of Justin Geller.
He invented a management system to collect and store data on customers and competitors of the company.
But instead of keeping it for himself to benefit,
he provided it to all his colleagues, hoping that the company could operate better.
And it was this arrogance that marked him in the eyes of the supervisors.
And finally, he was promoted to Deloitte.
Many people give away flowers thanks to their arrogance.
Unfortunately, this is not always true.
And some people finally run out of energy when they try to please everyone.
To avoid being exhausted and exploited, people have to learn how to maintain energy
and deal with those who take advantage of their arrogance.
The author gave the case of a teacher named Conrad Callahan.
She was exhausted when too many students were preparing for the college entrance exam,
so she came to the class and asked for advice.
Many people came to ask for advice just for fun,
without the purpose of really needing an advice to be able to move forward.
And Callahan decided to set up a self-advice program.
No more self-advice like this.
At first glance, this seems to be a bit contradictory because it will make her busier.
But in fact, this way has helped her precisely select those who really need advice
to be able to move forward.
And she had the opportunity to see for herself the success of the students,
the people she had guided and helped.
And this is what gave her the motivation to continue giving away,
to continue contributing to society.
In fact, there is no clear boundary between these three types of people.
There will be times when we give away,
but at some point we will accept it.
And usually in normal circumstances,
most of us are exchangeable, fair.
But to make your life better,
so that we can go to happiness and prosperity,
it is best for us to direct ourselves in the right direction
and avoid turning yourself into the type of person who likes to accept things too much.
