Dear all of you,
communicating to understand the market and our customers is one of the most important tasks of marketing.
Sometimes, some students have some strange ideas.
They often ask me,
Can I do this?
I never have a plan to answer,
whether I can do it or not.
I have to rely on market research
to see if the demand is big or not.
In the future, will the demand increase or decrease?
If the product is the trend of the market,
will it be at the beginning of the trend,
or in the middle of the trend,
or at the end of the trend?
In the market I want to enter,
is there anyone who has done it?
When I enter,
do I have any infrastructure to compete with them?
After 1 or 2 years,
will I be in the top 3?
If I don't have a plan to answer those questions,
I can't decide whether I can do it or not.
Remember, business is a game of numbers.
What is the game of numbers?
We make decisions based on the data of the numbers we collect.
We don't make decisions based on feelings.
No.
Because after that, we will spend 1 or 2 million dollars.
And we don't know if we will win or lose.
It's like the first night of a wake-up call.
Luck is on your side.
Therefore, everything has to be based on self-examination.
This is very important.
A week ago, a student from Ho Chi Minh City came to me
and asked me about a project.
There was a guy who was selling a car washing machine.
He had a car already.
He said he only invested 8 million dollars,
including all the money for the machine,
the setup and some other things.
After 12 months,
he lost all the money.
He sent me a very big Excel sheet.
Everything on the Excel sheet was very good.
He just told me
that he wanted to replace the machine
that was able to wash 100 cars and 20 cars a day
by 50%.
He asked me how long it would take.
It was Excel.
He said that he had to take a look at the number.
He was a good guy.
I asked him if he had any experience in Ho Chi Minh City.
He said he did.
He said it was very simple.
He hired two students.
Each of them had 2,000 dollars.
I told him to buy a machine like this.
He could only sit and eat.
That's it.
After that, he wrote down the numbers.
He scanned the numbers.
He saw if they were the same.
He gave them to me.
He didn't have to look at 8 million dollars for 12 months.

It was very interesting.
Everyone could only eat at that restaurant.
It was probably the biggest restaurant in that area.
But I thought that restaurant was boring.
So I decided to open another one.
I had a land area.
It was a few thousand square meters.
I was thinking if I should build a two-story 500 square meters house
or build a tower on the land.
So I decided to do it.
I analyzed it.
I realized that the land area was very small.
There were no tourists.
It was only around that area.
So the best thing I could do was
to go to the front door of the restaurant
and count the number of tourists every week.
I counted the number of tourists on the busiest day.
So I opened a new restaurant.
It was very good.
I got 45% of the customers.
I had to do it very well.
Plus a few more customers,
I had to pay for it.
The scale of my restaurant in the future
was very good.
It was twice as big as that restaurant.
So I thought to myself,
I had to do it.
So it was about
analyzing
to make a decision.
This is a job
in marketing.
If you run a coffee shop
in a small town,
and you have a website,
and you hear that you can rent it
at a reasonable price,
at a cheap price,
should you open a coffee shop?
You have to analyze
how many people
are selling coffee
per square meter or per square meter.
You have to analyze
whether the coffee is good or not.
Is it strong or weak?
You have to analyze all of that.
If you open a coffee shop,
you have to analyze
whether it is profitable
or not.
Don't rush.
I think this place is too cheap.
If you don't rent it,
it's a waste of money.
So I rented it.
Three months later,
it was broken.
It was broken to pieces.
I didn't do any research.
I tried to fix it,
but it was broken.
I tried to fix it,
but it was broken.
I tried to fix it,
but it was broken.
I tried to fix it,
but it was broken.
I tried to fix it,
but it was broken.
I tried to fix it,
but it was broken.
I tried to fix it,
but it was broken.
I tried to fix it,
but it was broken.
