I'm so happy you're here and I'm excited to be taking you along kind of a behind the scenes
into what it's like to host a sourdough class. So it's actually 10 23 right now. We just got back
from a dinner party with some of my husband's friends from work. Just put Emery, our little
girl to bed and the preparation for the sourdough class that's tomorrow night actually starts the
night before. So I've discovered that if I go ahead and set up all of the workstations it makes
the next day a lot easier because that's just one less thing I have to worry about.
I also go ahead and kind of set up the hosting area. So I put all of the dishes out that I'm
going to be using. I get the glasses ready. Just all of those little details. It makes me feel less
stressed out the following day if those things are in place and I just kind of have to go in
and add the food, add the drinks and kind of make it look pretty. So I'm going to take you with me
behind the scenes and we're going to get started.
So here's a quick run through of all of the supplies that I provide for my sourdough classes.
The first thing I provide is flour sack tea towels. I like these because you can wet them
and then put it on top of the dough in between stretch and folds. The next thing is wooden
spoons. I really like this one but these came by accident so they will do the trick.
And then I get everybody their own bread lame and normally I leave it in the cardboard package
and then I write their name and calligraphy on it but the packages look different and it
bothered me so I went ahead and just put the box with the blades and then the protective leather
thing. I taped it onto the handle and then added a cute little bow. So I did that for all of them.
They look so cute. And then the last thing is the banneton basket. So let's set up.
So this is what everything's kind of looking like so far. You can see each person's got their
tea towel, their bread lame, their spoon, their banneton basket, and then I'm going to be washing
their liners for their banneton baskets tonight to be ready for tomorrow.
Also it just occurred to me that I think I say banneton basket incorrectly so if I do don't
mind that. So after I get the workstation set up for the most part, we're crooked, after I get the
workstation set up for the most part this is my hosting station where I put like the charcuterie
board or just any of the snacks and sourdough that we're going to be having at the class
and then I also set up like a drink station on this side. So we're just going to move some things
and then get the dishes out and get everything kind of set up how we're going to have it for
tomorrow and then tomorrow afternoon we will just fill it with the food and the beverages.
So for all the classes that I host I always use paper napkins and paper plates
but for some reason I just always want to use actual glasses. I got these the other day for
my daughter's birthday because it's coming up in a few weeks and oh my gosh her theme is butterflies
so it was perfect and then I thrifted these probably a couple years ago now and I use them
at pretty much everything that I host just because it's a neutral color and it kind of goes with
everything. So these are the plates, those are the drinks, and I'm going to finish up getting
this area set up and then go to bed.
six and I came and fed all of the sourdough starters and I did that so that I could have
active bubbly starter around noon and around noon is when I'm going to be making 10 loaves of bread
so that the students can get an idea of how to laminate and stretch and fold their bread
while we're together because their dough obviously won't be ready until tomorrow
to do their stretch and fold tomorrow morning or to do their laminating. So I always make
one loaf for everybody coming that way they can see the different stages of the process
and get to have like hands-on experience with it so yeah that's what I'm going to do around
noon right now. We're just making some breakfast, making some eggs. We have
I made sourdough cinnamon rolls for that dinner party last night so we've got three left over
that we're going to have with our eggs this morning. We're going to go to Trader Joe's to get
some cute little fall spider snacks. Your egg is almost done. You want some egg? And then we also
have to pick up a new desk because my husband started paramedic school and my sewing desk
does not fit my 6'4 husband so stay tuned. I'm also going to be preheating my oven to
bake some fresh sourdough because I always love having a beautiful loaf of sourdough for a sourdough
class because it just gives everybody a chance to taste it if they've never tasted it before
and then it also just gets everybody kind of excited because they get to see like what they're
Okay guys so we went to Trader Joe's. We got some good snacks. I'm actually running behind on time
so I don't have time to show everything we got but I'm hoping that later tonight whenever I
have a chance to sit down I can show you the things that we got in more detail. So
we're just getting this. It's an Italian blood orange soda. We got two of them.
Maybe I'll just start with one. Yeah I'm gonna start with one and just add ice to that.
So now comes the setup portion. So I'll add ice to this.
We've got some rosemary raisin crisps, some walnut biscotti, dark chocolate,
pretzel breadsticks, pumpkin pie or pumpkin spiced jojos, some creamy fresh goat cheese,
then we got grapes, raspberries, blueberries, an assortment of cheese, ham, some crackers,
and some pepperoni. So we're gonna go ahead and get our charcuterie board ready because
people are gonna be coming in like 25 minutes. So we gotta hustle.
Oh my goodness that was so much fun. I didn't get really any footage
because we got home from Trader Joe's at like probably 5 15 and I still hadn't gotten ready,
still hadn't done the charcuterie board, still hadn't like you know put the drinks out and
everything. So yeah like I said setting up everything the night before is crucial because
I feel like no matter how much time you think you have you always end up running out of time
like I did. So I got a little bit of footage of setting up the charcuterie board but besides that
everything was just really quick. So I'm going to show you the aftermath of the class. I feel
every class I have just gets more exciting and more fun. Like this class the last person just
left and it's 8 45. The class ended at 8 but the conversations were just so great and I just love
the community aspect of it and then just the opportunity to like mingle with new people that
I've never met before. So anyways we're gonna take a tour of the kitchen so you can see
like I said the aftermath of the whole situation. So the sourdough was definitely a hit. There's
only one little slice left. Charcuterie board oh my goodness. All the drinks are gone. Nobody cut
into the wine or not cut into the wine. Nobody broke into the wine and I think it's because
this part was still on which I feel bad about but I couldn't figure it out. And then this is the fun
cleanup part. I've still got a bunch of extra sourdough starter and then just the crazy countertop
mess and then the 10 mixing bowls that I get to do tonight. These are the loaves that the class
worked on together. So earlier today I mixed together 10 loaves of sourdough that way
like seven hours later once I had sourdough class I could show everybody how to do the laminating
part. Not only the laminating part but also the stretch and fold because that part is a little
bit tricky. So so much fun. I absolutely love doing these classes. If you make sourdough at
home and you like the community aspect of bringing people into your home and like if that brings you
joy then I highly recommend doing sourdough classes. It's so fulfilling. It's so much fun.
I'm always just so happy afterwards. Just it like fills my cup to do this and to get to interact
with people. So anyways thank you for joining me on this video. It was a little bit hectic
towards the middle but I have a lot of fun and I hope you enjoyed watching. So
I'll see you in the next one. Bye guys!
