The biggest challenge we face today is from my point of view not the warming of the climate or wars, but the re-emergence of tribal thinking.
And I came up with that because a top politician made a statement and said something in a parable that actually shocked me a lot.
Listen to this video, it will make a lot clearer and above all explain to you why we will not solve the problems with tribal thinking.
The statement came from the Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, who is in full swing right now because he recommended to the Austrian poverty-stricken population
that if the children have nothing to eat, they should go to McDonald's, because it is cheapest there.
But I don't want to go into that, I think the internet is already hot, but he said something else in a parable.
He said, I will never be friends with the left and the socialists.
At least pretty much. And that really irritated me, because that is tribal thinking par excellence.
And I can now explain to you very clearly why that would lead us into the abyss.
Tribal thinking is something ancient and that is a security aspect.
Tribal thinking was, now we go back in human history, I always use the figurative Neanderthal,
30, 40, 50, 60, 70,000 years ago we were all nomadic on the road.
We moved around in groups of 60, 70 people.
That means we were such an isolated group that was just so big that we had enough genetic diversity,
but it was not too big that we would have had too many problems moving around.
Because moving around all the time with 5,000 people would not have worked.
Now it is the case that the biggest challenge was, and this is confirmed by science, to find food.
We had to solve all problems, such as finding food, within the group.
Of course, also other things, such as raising children, building huts, producing clothing.
Everything was solved within this group and had to be solved.
If another tribe, another group, approached us, and we know that food production was the biggest issue,
there was of course the danger that they would only come to take away the freshly hunted saber-toothed roast from us.
It's obvious.
This means that assuming that a foreign tribe is basically dangerous and basically means problems for us,
actually made sense at the time.
But then something happened.
It is assumed that about 70,000 years ago there was a genetic mutation.
Suddenly we were able to think, I do it very figuratively,
wait a minute, we can hunt well,
but what we have observed is that those over there can do something else well, namely they can pot well.
That would actually be good, because we are good at getting meat,
but it gets dirty and unhygienic very quickly.
If we now had a container where we could put the meat in, it would be better for us and the food would last longer.
So if we go there and give a little of our meat to them and we would get this container for it,
then it would be better for both.
And we are the only species that can think so networked.
With that, of course, the welfare of both tribes went up.
That was just very figuratively spoken now,
but with that you have recognized why the networked thinking actually took us a lot.
If we go back to today and observe it worldwide,
then we notice that we live in an incredibly networked way.
I mean, the T-shirt I'm wearing, probably also the clothes you're wearing,
is a interplay of the whole world.
The cotton is picked somewhere, then it is processed somewhere,
then it is turned into a fabric or woven somewhere,
then it is cut into a T-shirt somewhere,
then the marketing is done at some point and then it is sold at some point and so on.
That means it is a worldwide networking of people,
that you can wear a T-shirt or I can wear a T-shirt.
It's with the computer, it's with the cell phone you're holding in your hand,
it's with everything you do.
Nothing or almost nothing is made locally.
Yes, I know, of course, it also has crazy ecological problems,
but to live in a dream world, to believe that we could cut it all off
and only we in our village or in our federal state could produce everything
and do everything is of course completely absurd.
But I don't want to go into the ecological topic now,
I just want to tell you that this has brought us a lot of prosperity.
Because we just constantly recognize worldwide,
there are people in South Korea who can do something incredibly well
and we take the technology or the products from there,
we give them something that we can do well,
for example service, whatever.
So this networking simply helps to gain prosperity.
But now I come to the other side.
The problems we have with it, of course,
are today also largely global problems.
So climate change, for example,
it is absurd to believe that we could solve it alone.
But now some people take this as an occasion and think,
well, we don't need to do anything,
first the Chinese and the Americans should start,
before they start, we don't need to do anything.
But now the Chinese think,
the incredibly rich Europeans,
if they could afford it, why should we do something?
Which is of course wrong, because the Chinese are doing a lot in this direction.
You will see that in the next 7 to 10 years.
But overall, I just want to say,
if we always believe that the others are actually the ones who have to do something
or actually the ones who create a problem for us,
then we will not solve the problems.
And that's where we are now,
and that's why I came up with it,
when I listen to the political discussion in Austria,
in Switzerland, in Germany,
in England I noticed it,
in Italy very strongly,
and I think most blatantly in America,
you always believe in principle,
if the other tribe is gone,
then there are no more problems.
So in Germany, when the FDP is gone,
then there are finally no more problems
and then environmental protection is easy,
then we can finally pull through.
When the Greens are finally gone from the government,
then there are no more problems,
then we have nothing more of the challenges.
Don't we notice
that it has nothing to do with the other tribe?
And whether the Greens are now in the government or not,
it has nothing to do with climate change.
Other people believe,
if the AfD or the FPÖ are gone,
then there are no more problems with foreigners in our country.
We just have to bring them away.
Don't we notice
that we don't solve the problem
with the removal of the tribe?
And the whole politics,
and now it's exciting,
the population totally agrees
that you only look for one enemy,
namely the foreign tribe.
And if the top politicians come
and say,
with the others I would never be good in my life,
yes, then of course
there are no more problems.
But if you look
at it from a political point of view,
then of course we have gone back
before this ability of people
to network.
We have actually become a bit stupid
and a bit stupid
because we just don't realize
that the foreign tribe can have
incredibly good ideas
and we should sit down at a table.
And that doesn't mean that I give up,
but just to recognize that the others
might have a good idea.
Not everywhere.
But if we refuse
just because it's from a foreign tribe,
then we are actually
in the Neanderthal again.
And that is so important for us
that we humans go there
and just recognize
with a calmness
to listen to the other
and to recognize
what would help us
to solve the big problems
and not think
when they open their mouth
that they are bad.
You realize how emotional it would be
because when I said at the beginning
that the problem is of course
global warming and the war,
but we will only solve it
if we think beyond the tribal borders.
And what I just realized
is that we only think in tribal things
and either you are for it
or you are against it
and it's not about the problem anymore,
but it's just about
who actually said it.
I would like to know what you think about it.
Maybe I have a thought error in it.
Please write it down
and maybe share the video
with the people who
keep themselves so trapped
in tribal thinking.
Maybe it loosens
their mind a little
and makes them more open
to ideas from other people.
