We are the Big Takeover. The first concert I went to was in Jamaica where I grew up.
I went to see a lady named Lady Saw. She's a huge star in Jamaica. She's a DJ.
She does dancehall music. Her music is very raunchy and I was very young.
I actually went with my mom so you know how that goes. I liked it but I wanted to be respectful to my mom
because she was really getting raunchy. But yeah, Lady Saw.
We play a lot of reggae. We play ska. We play all those kinds of things.
But my first concert was something completely on the flip side of that spectrum.
I saw Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold at the PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey.
I'd never been to a show before. Avenged Sevenfold comes out and from the top of the rafters
they drop a body with a noose hanging from the body.
We were like, whoa, what is going on? And the body was moving.
Turns out it was this really crazy rigged up system they had for one of their roadies.
So it was an actual guy they did it to. And then the set was mind-blowing anyway.
But yeah, for a first concert experience, I mean, a crazy metal show, it was pretty fun.
My first concert series, the first concert I ever saw was... I hate saying it.
Nothing against anyone that likes him or him himself, but I saw Pitbull with my mom.
I think I was 13 or something. I wasn't too crazy interested in music at the time.
But she wanted me to have my first experience. I went there. It was the Barclays Center.
Pretty okay show. The guy does what he does well.
Got a t-shirt and my girlfriend hates it.
The first concert I ever went to was a band called Flogging Molly.
It's like this foot-stomping punk, but kind of like an Irish thing.
And I remember being kind of scared because everybody had a mosh.
I thought I was going to get tossed around.
I remember just standing back and then realizing the whole floor is moving.
I thought that was really cool. I don't know how old I was.
Maybe 13, 14, or 15, something like that. That's all I got.
Yeah, well, I went to so many concerts before I could even remember.
My first real one was Bruce Hornsby.
I got to go backstage and meet him because my dad went to college with him.
I still respect his career to this day because he's gotten to play not just in the pop world.
He's gotten to play music in almost every genre with some of the greatest of all time.
I still respect Bruce to this day.
It's hard to top that.
I think 1993 or 92 was the first real concert I went to.
That was Santana at Palacio de Bellas Artes in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
That was mind-blowing.
He just played near us recently, and I was hoping to catch that.
I haven't seen him three times since. Always amazing.
