Don't you wonder why you can't speak English even after 6 years of studying English in middle school and high school?
I'm going to tell you 3 things that will help you speak English the fastest and most comfortably.
Hello, welcome to English teacher.
Japanese people study English for 6 years in middle school and high school, but most of them can't speak English.
Of course, each person has their strengths and weaknesses, including subjects other than English.
However, even people who are good at English in school can't speak English freely.
Don't you think it's strange?
I'll tell you two reasons why Japanese people can't communicate in English.
The first reason is that the English they learn at school is learning to get good grades in exams.
In order to get good grades in college exams, they basically only study reading and writing.
So they don't have much time to speak or listen.
In fact, they don't have many opportunities to speak with foreigners,
and they don't have many opportunities to give presentations or debate, and they hardly ever speak English other than formal speech.
That's why even people who are good at English at school can't communicate in English.
The second reason is that because classes are centered on grammar, they create a situation where they are afraid of mistakes.
For example, if he likes pizza, it's like if he likes pizza, it's a punishment.
It's a bad influence on whether there's an S or not.
When it comes to speaking in English, you might make a mistake.
Here are three points that will help you speak English more easily.
The first point is that you don't have to aim for a native accent.
Japanese people and people who have been able to speak English since childhood have different tongue movements and mouth muscles.
So it's natural that you can't speak a native accent.
There are various native accents in English in the world, such as American accents, British accents, and Australian accents.
In fact, there are a lot of native accents from non-English-speaking countries, such as Indian accents, Philippine accents, and Singapore accents.
In fact, there are fewer original accents in English.
So it's okay to have a Japanese accent.
Here's a video I'd like to show you.
To be honest, this English is a native accent that's hard to hear.
This is Tedros, the head of WHO, and he speaks proudly in his own accent.
It doesn't matter if it's in business or international organizations.
The reason I want to be able to speak English is because I want to be able to communicate with people.
The second point is that there is no shame in having a Japanese accent.
As I mentioned earlier, the feeling that I can't speak English because I'm afraid of making mistakes and that I may not be able to communicate is hindering my progress in English.
This is what I experienced when I went to a British school.
A British classmate who knew me as a Japanese said,
I can speak Japanese.
Konnichiwa. Watashi no namae wa Jessica desu.
I've been told that many times.
At least your English should be better than this.
Don't be embarrassed. If you speak proudly like this, you'll get through.
Even in the same English-speaking country, there are times when people in England don't understand what people in Scotland are saying.
This also happens to British people.
So it's not surprising or embarrassing that they don't listen to you.
On the contrary, it is more difficult to listen to you if you speak fearfully in a low voice.
As I mentioned earlier, you're just a Japanese English speaker and you're just not used to other English.
Here's another video I'd like to show you.
Mr. Degawa is trying his best to communicate.
He's trying to get the other person to understand.
It's not a native accent, but it's a good conversation because it's fair.
In order to improve your English, not just your English,
It's important to throw away the feeling that you can't speak because you're afraid of making a mistake.
I don't care if I make a mistake.
Even if I make a mistake, I understand.
And before I announce the third point, I'll show you another video.
What did Thomas Jefferson do?
Mr. Degawa's attitude to communicate is wonderful.
Most of what he wants to convey is conveyed to the other person.
But do you know that Mr. Degawa is barely able to hear what the other person is saying?
That's why the conversation is not going well.
On the contrary, if you improve your listening skills,
Don't you think Mr. Degawa can use English as a tool for communication?
Here's the third point.
It's about improving your vocabulary and listening skills.
At first glance, this sounds like a lot of work,
But since you learned English in school, you should have a lot of grammar knowledge.
You don't have to know English words at all.
Even if you can convey what you want to say,
If you can't hear what the other person wants to say, the conversation won't go well.
That's how important listening skills are.
Here's how to improve your vocabulary and listening skills.
All you have to do is get your ears used to English.
Here's an example that I'm familiar with.
It was 25 years ago, but my father came to the UK from Japan for work.
My father, who was born and raised in Japan, could only speak Japanese.
At the time, he could hardly speak English.
At the time, in the UK, all televisions had English subtitles 25 years ago.
So my father learned to use it to get his ears used to English.
And even in business, he was able to communicate freely in English.
The method my father used here was to watch the same thing over and over again.
My father especially liked the movie A Few Good Men.
He watched it as many times as he could remember the lines.
Now there's TV, DVD, YouTube, and all kinds of English subtitles.
There are many ways to watch a movie you've seen in the past in English.
There are many ways to watch a foreign talk show in English.
What I particularly recommend is to watch a speech in English.
At first, it's okay to watch it in Japanese,
but there's a limit to the emotion and shock from the translation.
That's because there's a difference in nuance,
and there's a sense of discomfort in Japanese that comes from the translation.
But don't you want to be able to understand English subtitles
and be able to listen to English a little bit?
Don't you want to experience that emotion and shock in English?
And through that, don't you want to improve your listening skills
and try to have a conversation in English?
I'm going to put that kind of speech in Japanese on this channel,
so if you think this study method suits you, please take a look.
Through this channel, I would be happy if there were more people who wanted to work on their English skills
and improve their English skills.
If you have a speech or a scene from a movie you want me to talk about,
please leave a comment.
Thank you so so much for watching.
I hope you enjoyed, and if you did, please subscribe for more interesting videos.
