But how do actors cry in movies? Is it all true? Do they manage to cry on command?
Or are there tricks that Hollywood uses to give us the idea that an actor or actress is desperately crying?
Now we know, a good actor must be able to convey emotions and make any state of mind seem true.
You should know that some of the most famous scenes in the history of cinema
have been made precisely thanks to the actors' ability to cry for real.
But how do you cry on command? And what are the techniques used by the actors when they are on set?
Thinking of something sad, immediately ending up in a dramatic situation,
or bringing back to mind bad memories of childhood or the past can help you cry for real,
or focus on a tragic event.
These are just some of the methods used by the actors,
as the tears that come out in the end are the result of real emotions and it is very realistic.
Another method is to do exactly the opposite, that is to laugh.
Even simply hiding your face between your hands while laughing can work.
If you think about it, sometimes it can be difficult to understand if you are laughing or crying when you have your face between your hands.
Or it is possible to induce tears with a big laugh,
thinking of something very funny just before the shots could help bring out the tears of laughter from the actors' eyes.
There are many natural methods for staging a realistic cry.
Imitating the expression you make while crying will help bring out the tears and perfect the face while acting.
Irritating the eyes gently can be another valid solution, and to do so there are several techniques.
Pinching the eyes, then opening them, fixing a point for 20 seconds and repeating the procedure several times,
fixing a bright spot for a long time and then repeatedly slapping the eyelids,
slapping repeatedly while keeping the eyes open, or gently rubbing the eyes until they redden.
Sometimes, however, there are actors who have a lot of trouble crying when asked to do so,
and this is where the makeup artists come into play.
Artificial tears are drops of glycerin that can be inserted in the eyes to induce the eye to cry in a few seconds.
The framing, the editing, then do all the rest.
There is also a stick to the chin and the tears inductors,
which represent the most used and certainly most suitable professional method for cinema,
where many actors prefer the simplest solution.
The stick to the chin requires an application under the eyes,
the tears inductor, on the other hand, works just like a strike.
Both produce immediate and very realistic results.
There is also the good old grandmother's method, which is the less professional one,
that is, using a chopped onion.
It is certainly the least comfortable and least liked method by anyone,
but just suck in the smell to have a realistic and immediate effect.
There is also a vaseline-based product that is applied under the eyes,
which helps to simulate an elongated cry.
In short, there is no doubt that there is a world behind crying in movies.
