
Shifting Sentiments and Discouraged Recruitment: Understanding the Changing Perspective on Warfare
Due to several factors, including restrictions on Chinese military academy students studying abroad, poor physical fitness, and a reluctance to be used as cannon fodder, military academies in China are struggling to attract enough students. Additionally, there has been a shift in public sentiment regarding war in China. While there was once a more aggressive attitude towards reclaiming territories, recent exposure to the brutal reality of war, particularly through the Russia-Ukraine war, has tempered enthusiasm. This shift, combined with China's predominantly one-child families, suggests that a war frenzy is unlikely in the future. Furthermore, doubts remain about the Chinese Communist Party's capability to initiate and win a war.
