Hear what Greet Minnen had to say following Venus Williams' exit after being eliminated in her 24th US Open appearance.#Sports Zone#GreetMinnen
She loses just two games against
Venus Williams who in her 24th
record US Open suffers her most
lopsided loss ever here in New
York winning just two games.
Not easy to win it again though.
Twenty fourth US Open.
Impressive.
Good effort for Minnen.
She really played extremely well
was solid aggressive when she
needed to use her forehand
nicely attack the Venus second
serve beautifully and for Venus
her hundredth match at the US
Open fortieth at night on Ash.
I mean it's quite the legacy
that she will leave behind.
And the fact that she's still
persevering you have to give her
so much credit.
She loves the game and I think
she'll take something out of
this and say wait if I just do
this this.
I think she wants to give her a
little.
She wants to give herself some
time to be healthy to play
enough matches to see how she
can finish on her own terms.
You hope those conditions fall
into place.
We hope to see her here 52 weeks
from now knows what life offers
up.
He respects someone that is so open about her love and passion
for the game, when others would not
find that that's enough to carry them through, because they love
the winning and the success.
But it's a tough job when you don't have that.
Yeah, she has good perspective.
She deals with the losses extremely well.
Let's get out to Renee and hear from the qualifier, who
performed so brilliantly on the big stage in her first trip
to Arthur Ashe tonight.
Well, Crate, first of all, congratulations.
What an amazing match for you tonight.
I saw you before the match.
You looked a little nervous coming on this court.
But what did it mean for you to play someone like Venus
on this particular court tonight?
Yeah, I mean, someone told me that in 1997,
Venus already played a final here, or even won.
She was just born.
So for me, it was incredible to play a legend like her.
And yeah, I have huge respect for her.
To be there at 43 years old, it's amazing, really.
Yes.
You came through qualifying to get here.
How much did playing those matches actually help you
tonight coming into it?
Yeah, I think a lot.
You know, qualifying, a lot of good players.
I've done it a few times before.
But it keeps very tough to qualify.
So it means a lot to have these matches, you know,
to start here as a first match.
It's just incredible.
What was the game plan coming into the night?
You would have seen Venus play so many matches
through the years, somebody you would have looked up to.
But what was your particular game plan?
Yeah, I knew once I had her in the strike zone,
it was going to be tough for me.
You know, she has amazing strokes, amazing serve.
So I really tried to play aggressive,
make her move as much as possible,
even hit a few drop shots with them, not used to,
but I'll keep doing it, I think.
So yeah, that was the game plan.
The last game was you had an easy forehand
and you missed it long.
Can you talk us through that last game?
Because even though the scoreline was quite easy
for some people, what was going through your heart and mind?
I mean, my heart was beating really, really fast.
So I knew this forehand was, yeah, you know,
maybe easy forehand.
So I hit it like this long,
but I was happy because I went for it
and I didn't push the ball.
So that's what I was trying to do in this last game
to really stay aggressive, keep going forward.
And yeah, I made it.
You play Sasha Vickery in the next round.
She took out Donna Vekic.
But do you start to think that maybe getting
through qualifying, you're still so young yourself.
Do matches like this and handling this pressure
actually give you a ton of confidence
to think you can go a lot further in this tournament?
No, definitely.
You know, playing here on Ash was the first time for me,
but yeah, I really enjoyed it from start to finish.
And it was an incredible experience.
So I hope to play many more matches here.
Ladies and gentlemen, through the next round,
Crete Minnan.
