Welcome back to Travels With My Dad. We're on the trip of a lifetime taking my dad, George,
back home to Malaysia. And what a trip it's been so far. Today is the day I've been looking forward
to the most and one of the main reasons I wanted to come back to Malaysia. We're going back to my
hometown of Seremban to retrace my childhood steps and see my dad. Oh my god. We're so lucky
to have each other eh? We've also hinted at a trip within a trip surprise. So at the end we're
going to tell George the full story, where we're taking him next and is somewhere he's always
dreamed of. Feeling great this morning. Had a good sleep. Had a good sleep? Yep. How are you
feeling about today though George? Going to see your dad? Yes. A little mixed feeling yeah. Yeah.
Like a bit happy, a bit sad. Happy, sad. Yeah. Me too. That's how I feel as well. Yeah. It's like
an awesome thing to do but it's also like, oh you know, wishful. We were going to see
it under different circumstances. Yeah. I'm sure you wish that your mum and sister were here as
well. Yeah exactly. But it'll be good. Yeah. Got the tissues. Have you really? Yeah. Oh that's nice.
So to help make this happen, George's cousin, who lives in New Zealand, has got a friend that lives
here that is picking us up and is actually going to drive us back. Seremban? Seremban.
I'm probably saying that quite poorly. Hour and a half from here. Hour and a half. Sweet. Okay.
So it's nice of him to take some time out of his day, which means George has got... He took the day
off. Okay. And George has got him a little, a little treat to say, to say thank you. Can't
even make this up. His name is also George. Also known as George 2. Good on him. Yeah.
So the last time we were here was 2008 and even just looking around we've arrived in Seremban and
I've, I cannot recognise any of this. Apparently there's lots of like new toll roads and stuff,
stuff off the main highway. So I'm just looking around and trying to get my bearings and stuff
but it was so long ago that, you know, it feels like a whole new journey again. Yeah. I don't know.
I have no idea what to expect. George, George just cannot stop like looking around at everything. I
love it. He's got a sore neck. He's just fully observing. He's literally got a sore neck from
observing. One thing I remember when I, when I was little, when I came to town,
used to go to St. Mark's church. That's also around here somewhere. Oh is it?
And that's the beauty of the internet. That's all the info I needed to find the church on my phone.
So while Stace and George scanned outside, I helped George too navigate so we could make
something special happen. Oh my god. So dad, you used to come to this church? Yeah, come to this church.
Like what? Every week? Sundays, yeah. Every Sunday? We did, yeah. It looks the same? Yeah, it does.
So this must be how many years now, Georgie? I know you've been to Seremban since then but how long?
When I was little, I think it was about 10, 11. 10? 10, 11, yeah. Oh, that's so... We won't tell
everyone how old you are, eh? We'll just say it's lots, lots of years.
I'm sure you can relate to that feeling of when you see something after so many years and how
you just have this, this like flood of memories and things coming back to you. We did something
similar in Wellington for me and you know that was, I don't know, 20 years. We're talking 50
here. I can only imagine everything George has experienced right now. It's really, really sweet.
Oh, he's trying to pull the bell. He's still that little kid, eh?
No, I can see it. I can see it moving. Still that kid getting in trouble, George.
Yeah? It's your dad. Yes. How do you feel?
Mixed. Yeah? Happy and sad? Yes. Hi grandpa.
What are you thinking? Just that, like I wish I got to meet him.
Would have loved you. It's so nice to be here, to be here with you. Yeah. And like how sad also, like
you know, you can't help but put yourself in like your position. We're so lucky to have each other,
eh? Yeah. Semi sense of love. Yeah, she's been texting me this morning. I'm sure mum would want
to be here too. Yeah. Oh look, a butterfly. Dane, meet my grandpa. Hey grandpa.
It's so weird. We were literally just talking about our dog. Our dog Nalu, we named him,
his middle name is Koshi, which is my granddad's name. And then out of nowhere,
all of these dogs just started barking. Anding. Anding. You're happy with that, George? Yes,
I am so happy with that one. Interrupt this trip down memory lane for something that is
important. Not as important, obviously. It's important for us though. That's for some food.
Had a recommendation for a place here that we can, that we can check out. Just starving at
this point. Apparently this is Indian food, but it says Nasi Goreng on the outside, but
we've been told that this is, this is good kai. We're waiting for some curry puffs, haven't you,
man? Yeah, man. I want to try some of that curry puffs. Yeah. Oh, we're behind the counter,
are we? Yeah, yeah. All right. I don't know what's going on. I think we're basically picking,
picking what we want. It's quite a selection here. Serve it up.
Catching a few eyeballs here. I don't think they've seen people walking around talking to a
camera before. What's this? Do it yourself. It's a bun plate. Really? Yeah, yeah. So this looks like
chicken curry. Nice. So some of these are squid. That might look a little bit more dry. It looks
like a larb kind of thing. We're not really sure what's going on down this end, but yeah,
that looks good. Something that I ate was just really spicy.
I want to see what you think of the curry puff. Oh, that's like a full body experience.
Look at my sweat. Spicy, but still not so spicy that you can't taste it. Insanely good. Not even
a hundred percent sure what we ate right now. So we did find some stuff that George remembers. We
went to a place that he used to do a little bit of shopping. Wow, look how old it is. It is so
old. This used to be a lot of shops here. What kind of, what would you come and buy from here,
George? What was your treat? Candies. Candies, always candies. I know someone like that.
So this is like a little, you know, your town, main town. Doesn't even look like the paint's
changed. No, no. And then we found a spot where, uh, we thought he was, we thought his athlete
career had started, but apparently it wasn't him. It was his dad. This is where my dad used to play
football. What about you? No, I was too young then. Just hanging around with him, but he used to
play football. Yeah. I wish we had footage of that. I know. It's so cute. Sadly, we were looking for
where, uh, where he was born, where he like grew up, where his house was. But I think that whole,
and I just, it's been too long. So you would have played around here and stuff, George? Down there?
Yeah, I would have. Yes. Yeah. No luck there. All the houses have gone. Hard to spot after this
so long. Yeah. But your one would have been, looked older than that. No, no, no. House was
different like that. Actually, the old houses are plank, wooden houses, wooden ones. After that,
they broke, they broke that, demolished that, and they put these ones. This has been incredible,
though. I feel pretty fortunate to be here and be the one kind of capturing all of these moments
and sharing it. Thanks for watching along this much as well. I realize this isn't like our
typical video. It's very much, it's almost more for George, for States, for their family, for
their friends, their extended family that will kind of tune in and be able to watch along with
this. But it's obviously pretty special for us to be here as well and like take this dude along.
Well, in my opinion, this curry probably don't like what I was looking for. This is Indian
spice one, which is okay, but it's not quite what I want. I want the one that's got a potato in it
and a soup of the doughnut. Until I find that, this is a no for me.
That was only 41 ringgit. We all had a drink. We all had food. My plate was full of chicken,
man. Full of chicken. It's only 40 ringgit. I'm so full. I'm satisfied after that, man.
As dad would say, absolutely satisfied. It was absolutely satisfying, man.
We really, really appreciate it. Thank you. And if you come to New Zealand?
Definitely, I'm going to come. Definitely. Yeah, absolutely.
Okay, take care, man. Take care, man.
Paul, I'll keep in touch, okay? Okay, brother.
All right. Thank you. You're welcome.
We'll keep in touch. Yeah, don't miss anything, huh?
Yeah. Special day, huh?
Yes, it has been. George made it really, really special.
He did. He's like a private investigator for us.
Awesome guy. I've got a new friend, George.
Yeah, he's one that George too. Yeah.
As we said goodbye to my new friend, George, we had a chance for one last look around Kuala
Lumpur. We've made memories for life here and coming back has been a dream come true.
But Stace and Dane have secretly been planning to make another dream of mine happen.
Hi, darling.
So, Dane and I have been organizing a bit of a surprise for you.
So, you know how you love animals? Oh, yeah.
We're going to Borneo. What?
We're going to Borneo and we're going to do a safari and we're going to see elephants and we're
going to see monkeys and we're going to see a sunspear, a rabbit hand.
All of yours? Yeah, you want to see? Look.
What the hell? Look, we're going to go to this place.
My God. Look.
This is so exciting.
And we're going tonight.
What the? Really?
Yeah, we're going to change plans a little bit, but we're going tonight.
What the hell?
We'll get you ready.
You don't want to see a monkey sit in the wild.
Oh my giddy aunt.
Next time on Travels with my Dad.
We're heading to the rainforest of Borneo on a three day safari to see all the wildlife
and I'm so excited.
Couple, couple of athletes.
We'll see you then.
