Chelsea are set to break the British transfer record again after agreeing a £115 million
deal for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo. Caicedo has been given permission by Brighton
to undergo a medical today at Chelsea who look to have beaten Liverpool to his signature.
The Ecuador international will sign an eight-year contract with an option of a further year.
As part of the £115 million record deal Brighton will have a significant sell-on clause
On Friday Liverpool agreed a £111 million deal to sign Caicedo but the move fell through when
he told the club he wanted to join Chelsea. Manager Jurgen Klopp seemed frustrated at
losing out on the midfielder last night saying Chelsea managers tend to get who they want.
Caicedo and Navier, it seems that both clubs are interested.
Is there anything you can say to enlighten people on what may or may not be true?
There's a camera? No.
Oh, yeah, obviously that's what every Chelsea manager wants and usually they get it so,
yeah, I don't know, I have nothing to say about that to be honest.
Caicedo made 100 tackles for Bryson last season and made 56 interceptions too,
ranking him second in both categories compared to the rest of the Premier League.
Hugely impactful in the middle of the pitch, completing nearly 2,000 passes as well.
Once a Caicedo transfer goes through it will take Chelsea spending under American owner
Todd Boley past £887 million and converted to US dollars. That is $1 billion.
Mauricio Pochettino may be welcoming yet more players in this window.
Caicedo will become the 27th permanent signing of the Todd Boley era at Chelsea.
In pounds they've spent huge amounts in each of the three windows. £278 million,
£323 million and this summer £285 million and counting.
Chelsea have done an awful lot of shopping at Brighton recently, acquiring several players
as well as Graham Potter and his backroom team. Incredibly spending £224 million
Brighton's way in the last year. In the previous financial year Brighton's total turnover
was just under £175 million. Well this is how the British transfer record has evolved over the
years. Trevor Francis became the first £1 million player with his move to Nottingham Forest from
Birmingham in 1979. 16 years later it belonged to Alan Shearer following his £15 million deal
from Blackburn to Newcastle. And fast forward another 21 years and the record was more than
six times that. £93.25 million took Paul Pogba from Juventus to Manchester United.
And Jack Grealish became the first £100 million British transfer when he joined
Manchester City from Aston Villa two years ago. And Enzo Fernandez's £106.8 million move to
Chelsea broke that this winter. But it seems he'll hold the record for only seven months
with Caicedo's move set to break the British transfer record again.
