Axiom's Timeline For The First Commercial Space Station
It's hard to think that one day the mainstay of the modern space industry will cease to exist, but all great things must eventually come to an end. Currently, NASA is working with commercial companies to build replacements for the ISS that will be retired by 2030. Axiom is one of them, and it will be the first commercial company to launch a space station segment in 2025.
So, what exactly is inside the first commercial space station?
Why is Axiom's space station important to NASA and the United States?
Let’s find out in today's episode of Great SpaceX!
China, a formidable competitor to the United States, is emerging in the space race by successfully building its own space station and has already sent crews to the space station for research.
Meanwhile, the International Space Station - the cradle of exploration and research beyond Earth led by the US – is slated to cease operations entirely by 2030.
But I'm not sure it can stop working on schedule, it will probably fall earlier.
So, the most pressing concern for NASA and the U.S. government is the need to establish a completely new space station to replace the ISS. However, this is not an easy task as NASA's budget is largely allocated to the Artemis program, focused on returning to the Moon.
As a result, in 2020 NASA decided to award Axiom Space a contract to build a commercial space station and it will launch the first module by the end of 2025.
