Now, after their second-place finish in the Premier League this year, what can
Arsenal achieve next season? Well, their former defender Saul Campbell said
there's a lot going right for the club to go one better.
It's been an unbelievable season. I think the Arsenal fans should be incredibly proud of the
team. Yes, they've just fell short of, you know, I say three games really, you know,
back end of the season. That really changed the whole momentum and the pendulum just swung
their way for Manchester City, the three draws, obviously Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton.
But, you know, the fans should be incredibly proud for them. They've played an unbelievable
season. Everyone's chipped in. Everyone's bought into Mikel Teta's kind of vision.
Edu's come in as well and has kind of helped him as well. But the team could be proud. The
fans should be proud because it's an incredible season and they just fell short at the end.
William Saliba is set to sign a new four-year contract at Arsenal
and Campbell believes the Arsenal team can be built around him.
Look at his age. He's, you know, incredible. He's still a young gun, a very young gun.
Incredible tools, movement, he can move around, great passing. All he now needs is experience,
you know, and keeping his feet firmly on the ground and keep learning, keep listening to
the management and want to work, keep loving the game and stay injury-free. That's key really
because we kind of, you know, back end of the season, there was a big loss for Arsenal,
losing him at the vital moments, vital period of the season. You just need those guys to kind of
stay fit and give you all the best opportunities. Every time you play, you've got the best team.
Well, Campbell finished his playing career at Newcastle, who are now, of course,
preparing for Champions League football next season. He says Eddie Howe has a big summer to
get the right players in. I think he knows he will have to, you know, bring some players in,
the right players in, to compensate that, to kind of make sure the league, you know,
you don't kind of drop off the league and then you drop off the Champions League. You've got to
make sure, you know, stay in these competitions as long as possible and then you see what happens
at the business end of the season. You know, Champions League is almost like a half a season,
so you need some more players. You can't let, you know, I said before with Arsenal, you just can't
say, all right, you know, we've got these players and we're OK for the league, but Champions League,
once that comes in the equation and also the other cups, you know, you've got to want it. You need
players to help you to get through all those difficult games, come Christmas time and things
like that, and you need some extra players or injuries or suspensions. You need to compensate,
you need to understand all these things, all these factors are going to come in in the season
and you've got to get some players, the right players, to make sure the level doesn't drop.
