4K Mediterranean Mountain Hike | Chemin de Saint-Guilhem | Randonnée Magnifique | Occitaine France

The Chemin de Saint-Guilhem crosses the vast natural areas that connect the department of Lozère in the north, to that of Hérault in the south. Let's Take a virtual hike on circuit Notre-Dame du lieu Plaisant which is part of this Chemin and also part of Grande Randonnée known as GR74!

This hike begins in Saint-Guilhem-le- Désert, a village elected among the most beautiful villages in France. We climb up towards the Giant's Castel (Château du Géant), visit the hermitage Notre-Dame-de-Lieu-Plaisant further down the trail and the return to the village descending in rain.

The hermitage Notre-Dame-de-Lieu-Plaisant:
The hermitage is located at approx. 1230 ft. elevation and 2.3 miles from starting point of trail. a real haven of peace! (outside the busy period) clinging to the cliff, whose shaded spaces are conducive to picnics. This 14th century building, still inhabited by a hermit, is still a place of worship. At the back of the hermitage a spring allows the visitor to quench his thirst.

Château du Géant:
A long time ago, a Giant had taken up residence in the castle overlooking the village of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, in the company of a magpie. The two acolytes terrorized the villagers. One day, Guilhem, tired of having to manage the fear that the Giant provided on the village populations, decided to disguise herself as a servant and pretend to transport water to the castle to fight this impostor. During her journey, the magpie that was lurking around noticed that the maid who was on her way to the castle did not look the same as usual.
