Koh Samui Food Tour - Where to Eat on Koh Samui Thailand Street Food, Night Markets & Restaurants

Angela's favorite time again We're gonna kick off here with green light cafe comes highly recommended. Let's check it out Start off with here. We've gotten a couple of smoothies. Mine is a watermelon strawberry mint and lime Super refreshing because it's so hot out here right now. Despite being relatively early in the morning. I got one. It's got Espresso banana raw cacao It says flower nectar, I don't even know what that is. We know it and almond milk and it tastes like a chocolate caffeinated milkshake dry As usual Jeff has ordered a sweet breakfast and I have savory. That's just the way it goes with us. I've ordered shakshuka Which is a dish that I'm familiar with because of a lot of Israeli friends that I have they love this As a breakfast dish, they'll eat it for lunch and dinner Eggs on top of a sauce made of peppers and tomatoes. There's lots of herbs in this one It looks delicious and I'm worried. It's gonna be hot because it came out of the oven just still bubbling And while she's in there trying to get that down there I have ordered what they're calling I'm gonna have to read it off of the menu here for you It's called a sunny sweet toast it is grilled sourdough toast with organic peanut butter homemade mango and passion fruit jam Caramelized banana with cinnamon nutmeg and coconut caramel topped with chopped chopped nuts in mint It looks so good. You can see almonds peanuts cashews all over the top of this here How was your shakshuka? It's delicious. It's like If you can really taste the peppers and the tomatoes and the sauce they've done such a good job of caramelizing the onions in here I'm not trying to organize a little bite here because this is a crunchy little salad area. Oh, good. Does that look? Yeah It's dessert for breakfast. Of course, it tastes good That is ridiculously good, oh my god Those big chunks of banana looks amazing That is so good And yes, we realize that this is not Thai food But the place had such good reviews on it we had to give it a try Hmm, you have to try this You're actually gonna let me try it. Oh, yeah, you want to try this? We're gonna swap plates Shakshuka is gonna be a little weird after I haven't all that sweet in my mouth But it is super sweet and it is super tasty You and nuts Oh my god, I told you all right that banana is like so sweet and caramelized and kind of like mushy, so it's almost like Just melting in your mouth and that mango passion fruit jam is like tart and sweet. Oh, yeah crunchy nuts. It's awesome. It's good It is very good. All right, let's give her shakshuka a try here. I don't have any of the egg on here It's such a contrast going from the sweet in your mouth this Wildly get a little piece of the egg. It's very tasty Well that polish is off that up next and the name of this place is chow room I Love this place It's right around the corner from our Airbnb and this is the kind of vibe you hope for When you come to like a beachy place like Koh Samui sit in beach front sipping a margarita As is the custom with our food tours we ordered way too much food this place is not joking around with the portion sizes Starting off. We have this beautiful fried catfish salad. Oh That's nice You got this crispy fried catfish. It's like sweet and salty and sour sauce on it It's not much of a salad in the fact that it's mostly just fried catfish, but it's tasty All right, don't a big bunch of cilantro on here dip it in some of the little sauce catfish out faulty Lay everything tie. There's a sweetness to it Cilantro is very strong. I am NOT the biggest fan of the world of cilantro, but I try and eat it everywhere I go but That catfish is delicious I'll get this soft-shell crab Look at these cashews and it looks like papaya salad and like all these gorgeous herbs green onions Ah, I honestly I don't know how to eat this properly. So I'm just gonna like do my best Here. Oh ----. Oh my gosh It's got Chili peppers you can see them all mixed up in there The papaya salad on top like the herbiness and the Vegetables and the pig really contrasts nicely with the crunchiness of this soft-shell crab. This is amazing So when I ordered this I ordered this extra spicy So I asked them to make it Thai spicy make it a bit spicier than what you would normally get get a little bit of Papaya on there get some of this crab Tons of little chilies all over this. Oh Mix of What the ties do once again? The salty the sweet the little papaya chunks that are all over it The heat that's coming off of it is really nice This is one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life This is a fried sea bass Once again, I asked for it Thai spicy so I can get a little bit of extra spice with it It's covered with cashew nuts you can see a ton of chilies all over the top of it The fish itself is more for presentation. We're gonna show you how to eat the fish cheeks here shortly little fried pieces of fish that are inside of here, it's Tons of herbs all over it Let's just grab one of these pieces of fish and give it a go There's heat Eyes This I'm wondering if like these are little morning pieces of morning glories in here as well But the ties just have their ---- together. They know how to make food Like you can't I I have yet to been anywhere in the world that the flavor Combination that happens in your mouth when you eat Thai food. It's there's just something unbelievable about this. This is amazing How gorgeous is this dish I can see lemongrass I can see shallots I can see cashews I see cilantro And all on top of this beautiful deep fried sea bass I'm gonna try and take this big bite Let's see how that works out. Oh My god Jeff keeps talking about the contrast in the Thai food Another contrast is just like this greasy crispy fried fish along with this Extremely fresh and flavorful salad on top. It's just so good That's not just a sea bass that's spicy These soft-shell crabs are lighting me up right now, but it's so tasty. I cannot stop eating this We asked for Thai spicy and we meant it And it's delicious, but my nose is starting to run and I'm starting to sweat and I don't even care because it's so good We got to grab a bit of rice here Just to cool the mouth off Okay, so just if you're not aware some of the best parts of a piece of fish are this right here and That is the fish cheeks themselves, which is always phenomenal They've just done such a good job with this Herbal salad that they put on top of this so much going on in here and it's just so perfect with the fish I think we have done about as much damage as we can do here This is gonna be the last one that we're going for here My god, this is so good If you are staying on Koh Samui and you are looking to eat on a budget place to do that is at the night market So most of these night markets that you come to is gonna be a mixture of goods that you can buy and food Some of them are gonna be just food only but this one's especially kind of cool because check this out So pad thai is not my favorite dish truth is if you've been here in Thailand for over a month well over a month and I haven't ordered it once but we walked by this lady who is making it fresh at her stand Actually, this looks amazing Let's give it a shot This one's a chicken pad thai Yeah See, this is what pad thai should be like often you get it back home or in places here and it's like gloopy and it's overly Sweet this has that mixture of sweet and tangy. The noodles are perfectly cooked not gloopy at all. This is delicious That is very tasty There's onions All right, let's give this a shot. Oh, come on It's exactly what you pork pork belly to be. Yeah, it's lean white meat There's gorgeous little fatty pieces and this sauce is spicy and delicious Can't be good for you, but it's so good. All right, I've already tried this it's Fantastic the sauce is amazing on it. It's fatty pork pork belly It literally melts apart in your mouth you have the crispy little edges around it but the fattiness just melts in your mouth Dumplings Now to be completely honest with you. This is our third little dish that we're on right now How's the dumpling? you carry on I mean the Third dish that we're on we're splitting each of these. We're both kind of already full We're gonna try and get a dessert in here So so far what we've spent tonight Minus the cocktails that we had minus which which were very inexpensive themselves, but this was a 270 baht pad thai dumplings and a hundred hundred and fifty grams of the pork belly 270 bought I'll put a conversion down below. Yeah to US dollar and euro here eat a dumpling. Okay. Now we're going for dumpling Pretty good They are tasty Yeah This is just vanilla and chocolate ice cream in a corn flavored cone I got matcha green tea, that's why it's green That soft serve ice cream, but it hits the spot right now because it's super hot. It is so hot Extremely ridiculously hot. I Had to try the cone though. Oh These were 35 body Corner doesn't taste like Yeah, so 35 body each for the ice cream brings our total to 340 baht for everything we've eaten here tonight Which is awesome. This is the green leaf restaurant We've come here actually multiple times because the ambience is great. The owner Gobi is amazing and we love the food And Gobi has invited us back to the kitchen so we can watch them prepare a meal I Am super excited about this because it seems right up my alley So you've got that raw prawn and then Gobi says you need to get the little garnish with the bitter melon thinly sliced garlic the thinly sliced chili as well as the mint leaf and just get it all in one bite because it's It's made to go together That is just such a beautiful flavor combination the prawn Being only good cooked in the sparkling water has this like gorgeous like creaminess to it Which is surprising and then you've got these flavor contrasts with the bitterness of the gourd and the garlic It's a little bit of a spice in the chili and then that gorgeous freshness in the mint leaf This is just like still light and perfect. Well composed bite. This is the Goomcha Nam Pla I'm gonna try this a little bit differently I'm gonna get everything else in my mouth and then go with the shrimp to be honest with you We're all shrimp and it is a ceviche style, but it sounds like it's a little intimidating when you first hear it I'm blown away right now the flavor is the mixture of The mint and bitter gourd and the chili peppers that are on here with a little sauce. It's all over. It's Fantastic. I managed to get a big hunk of crab meat on top of this papaya salad First off they're not joking around. They made this one spicy and second that beautiful sweet delicate crab meat set off against like the crunchy and the spicy and the Citrusy of this papaya salad is fantastic. Oh my gosh all right, so this is the jungle curry with all of the Szechuan peppercorns and chicken and Eggplants carrots poured a bunch of the juice from it all over this rice. Let's get a big bite of that The aromatics that they do here in Thailand. There's something Amazing about it. I just took that bite and my sinus is cleared right from the aromatics that are in here Yeah For a curry with no coconut milk in it at all this is Spectacular these peppercorns are delicious. The chicken is perfect Thai food is totally sensory overload. It's just so much happening in your mouth all at one time The spiciness the sweetness the umami. It's sour. It's everything all in one thing There's nothing better Gonna give this jungle curry a try and I see it all over menus here and I've never tried it before just because I like My coconut curries, but Gobi recommended it. So I had to give it a shot That is just so flavorful And so different from what you associate with a Thai curry because it doesn't have that coconut milk You really get like the full hit of the curry and it's got so much flavor in it. That's amazing I got my crab already here Nice beautiful chili right there because I'm gonna tell you every time I eat the chili. I Like the papaya salad fine. They're more Angela's thing than they are mine But I'm gonna say the blue crab with the papaya salad is a very nice twist Adds another element to the whole thing. But man, that's a spicy It's a spicy one. Oh, yeah, I didn't need that big chili in there Too sweet Still sweet.
