The Chinese adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's classic 'The Ugly Duckling' are currently going viral on the Chinese interwebs. Why? Because in this version, the Ugly Duckling becomes dinner for a fat woman.
So we've all heard of the ugly duckling story and well in the Chinese version, the ugly duckling gets cooked.
Of course, right? Why are we surprised?
Yeah, and become a pecking duck.
So in the story it's basically the same until the very end.
So we all know that the ugly duckling went away from home and now the ugly duckling is very tired
so it's laid down and thought like, oh you know, what's the point of struggling?
So don't fall asleep.
With her excellent cooking skills, she made the ugly duckling into a delicious dish.
A wonderful dish.
So this is the ugly duckling from hell.
This is so disturbing.
First of all, I like how they use a fat woman, a fat woman actual person.
Not a skinny one, it's a fat one.
The book looks like there's peeing underneath for kids and there's cute little pictures on the back for kids.
Seriously, why are you teaching kids this? This should be banned.
You gotta just like, friend the hell out of them.
You gotta teach them some manners and lessons from a young age.
You gotta just instill the fear of God in them with these little stories.
So what, you get eaten if you're ugly?
What kind of message are you sending?
No, I think the message you're sending is that you shouldn't try to be different from everyone else.
What do you mean?
Don't run away.
Don't run away, but also because the ugly duckling thinks that it's because he's different from all his duck family, right?
Because he thinks that he's a swan and not a duck.
He thinks he's better than everybody.
This is what happens to people who think they're better than other people.
You get eaten by fat women.
But he doesn't think he's better.
He just thinks he's different.
But he's a swan, he thinks he's better.
Swan doesn't mean he's better.
A swan is much better than a duck.
Have you had a swan before? It looks beautiful.
Oh my god, so you're the fat woman in disguise.
Just kidding, I never ate a swan.
Well, so the Chinese netizens basically hate it and fault it to them.
They just think it's teaching kids not to be themselves and follow the masses.
And they're saying that the dreams are killed at a very young age.
Don't dream big.
Who is this written by?
Clearly, whoever wrote this isn't ugly.
No, whoever wrote this is just like, I'm going to really scare the crap out of kids for my livelihood.
Basically, whoever is writing this is just drawing all of their childhood.
No, but for a kid, when they read that, they're like, yeah, that's normal.
Like ducks become food.
No.
No, no, no, well you wouldn't, right?
But if all the stories you ever were presented in front of you were like this.
Because we grew up reading stories of encouragement and aspire to be whoever we want to be.
Yeah.
So Mike, why do you think they changed the story into this?
Alright, this story I think is written by a real sadistic guy that really wants to kill all kids' wishes, dreams, aspirations.
You know, even if I'm maybe born in a bad situation, a bad neighborhood, I can grow to be somebody great.
Somebody I can really dream of being one day.
But then, this story is basically like, yeah, you can do that and then you're going to die.
And someone's going to eat you.
Like what?
Who does that?
Somebody obviously fat and hungry.
Oh my god.
And it's a fat woman.
That had to be clear.
Alright guys, tell us what you think of the story and why do you think the author wrote what he wrote?
