The disappointment continues in the World Baseball Classic for Korea.
A third consecutive tournament that they do not advance past round one.
But it could get even worse because, again, if the result in this game does not go the right way,
they'll have to re-qualify before 2026.
Alan John Carter, the 25-year-old who just signed to the Angels organization,
really a self-made right-hander with a ton of stuff.
Big ovation for 24-year-old KBO MVP Jung Woo Lee.
Lee with a ground ball and Korea strikes first.
Ability to fight pitches. He gets jammed and stays right with the same approach.
He's not worried about velocity of the ball getting by him.
Big hole came. DH.
Another 3-2. A rocket into center field.
Jung Woo Lee scores. 2-0 Korea.
We've seen him face hard-throwing right-handers.
And it's just all the same consistently.
It was not the top of the first inning that Alan John Carter and Team China envisioned
falling behind Team Korea 2-0.
But manager Dean Treanor, ever the teacher,
Leung Pei at the top of the order.
Takes a 1-0 pitch to center field.
A lead-off base hit for Team China.
22-year-old Taehyun Won.
The Samsung Lions and KBO.
165 in the third innings for the Lions.
Punches out 130 in the 27 starts.
Ground ball through the right side.
Young-jin with the second consecutive hit.
And they're at the corners for China.
Nobody out.
Just threw two batters.
It was the best start they've had in the game.
That's it. Be aggressive.
You will see that fastball but you want to stay away from that changeup
which is his best pitch.
1-1 pitch to left center field.
Cao Jie with another big swing.
This ties the game in the first inning.
It's 2-2.
How about it?
Follow the leader again after the solid at bat by Chang with a walk.
Stay on the fastball.
Tarik brought well said.
Kim.
One out.
Base is loaded here in the second.
Near to right field.
Leung Pei.
There.
Inside the line.
Sack fly will snap the 2-2 tie.
Choi tagged up from second to third.
Mark still on first.
Bounces away from Won Jin-jin.
Coming in to score is Choi.
And it's 4-2 Korea.
It has been a rough night for Won Jin-jin.
Two well pitches.
One pass ball.
Lee.
Now the catcher.
Base is loaded.
Nobody out.
Ball one.
Base is loaded.
Nobody out.
In field in.
And I believe there's been a mark.
Wow.
First one called.
And it will be.
That's lined into left field.
Run will score to four.
China trying to stay close to Korea.
So Dean Treanor going to his bullpen.
But drop.
Beautifully done.
7-2 Korea.
As Ji-hoon Choi at the bottom of the order uses his speed.
This is the big part of their game.
The safety squeeze.
Left-hander falling off the third-base side of the rubber.
Perfectly placed.
I am telling you we are watching a dimension.
A spark and a drive that has not been there all tournament.
Jung-hoo Lee.
Base is loaded.
Nobody out.
RBI single in the first.
He clobbers a baseball to right center field.
This one will bounce off the warning track.
Jung-hoo Lee drives in some more.
The third inning party continues for Korea.
And the boppers have showed up.
Just a sweet spot kind of swing.
Just everything is perfect.
Opened up against the lefty a little bit more with that front foot.
And puts a charge on it.
Battered around now.
Bae Ko-kahn let off this inning with a base hit.
0-2 pitch grounded to second.
Lee-Ning.
There's one.
And two.
The 11th run does score for Korea.
But.
Wong-Shang.
Executed.
Give it to him.
The 0-2 turned on.
To left field.
Off the bottom of the wall.
A long single.
For Kun-woo Park.
Hit hard.
Hit deep.
And carried the same type of damage.
Now up by 10 runs here in the third inning.
Korea.
Up by 10.
At the beginning of the fourth inning.
Liner to left.
Drops in front of Ko Young-Kang.
So a leadoff base hit.
First and second.
Nobody out for team Korea in the fourth.
A little flare.
Shallow right center.
It will get down.
Korea's loaded the bases.
Again with nobody out this time in the fourth inning.
Ground ball right off Sun-Hai Long.
Got up quickly.
Hopefully he's okay.
Went off of his glove.
Scored a run.
Now an 11 run lead for Korea.
Kun-woo Park.
Two for three.
Both hits came in the third inning.
The second single drove in a run.
2-0 pitch.
Clobber to left field.
Is gone.
And slam.
Kun-woo Park.
18 spot for Korea.
They have brought such a spark to tonight's ball game.
That's got many of us wondering where was this before.
The engagement.
The intensity.
The pressure on the young team.
And they are not taking anybody for granted.
I think he's a little hungry after popping out last time.
Bases loaded.
Kim unleashes on the 3-2.
Deep to left field.
Gone.
A second grand slam for Korea.
And a world baseball classic record.
They've now scored 22 runs.
The most ever in a single game.
There are the 22 looking beautifully for Korea.
It's a lift for them.
Obviously it doesn't fix much in terms of where they're going to end up.
But boy, who does not want to finish on such a high note.
Early termination rules state that the team is in front by 15 runs after 5.
The game is over.
Three more outs for China to try and extend this final game of Pool B.
Strike three swinging.
And that will do it for Pool B.
Korea with a dominant and historic performance.
And a 22-2 victory over China.
