Rep. Sandlin talks about his HB 1783 as it is unanimously voted out of the Appropriations Committee.
Mar 13, 2023
Rep. Sandlin provides a brief discussion, along with a little comedic relief, of House Bill 1783. The bill would support economic development in distressed areas through the hiring of grant writers.
Skilled grant writers are not easy to find, particularly in distressed areas with high rates of unemployment and in need of economic development assistance.
The bill would require the Department of Commerce (DOC) to establish a grant program to support associate development organizations (ADO) in the recruiting, hiring, and retention of full-time grant writers.
The ADO's are local organizations designated by each county to serve as the department's primary partner in local economic development activities in their county.
