What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu? Brazilian Jiu Jitsu bases off of Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Judo. If you look at all three of those arts; Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo and Japanese Jiu Jitsu they're very similar, except Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is all on the ground.

And the reason for that is, the founder Helio Gracie and his brother Carlos, Carlos was a bigger guy and Helio was a smaller guy, and Helio was having a hard time pulling off a lot of the submissions and all the techniques standing up. But once they hit the ground it kind of like put them both on the same ball field. It didn't matter if you were big or small as long as you knew how to maneuver your hips and that's how Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was born.

So Helio Gracie from Brazil, from the Gracie family, some of you guys have heard of Royce Gracie, Relian Gracie...all those guys are from the same family. They are phenomenal martial artists.

The way we implement Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in our system is the kids learn a little bit of everything every month. So they learn a self defense technique, they learn a boxing or kickboxing technique, and a Jiu Jitsu technique along with all the respect, courtesy and self discipline. So we want our kids to have a little bit of everything so just in case they get taken to the ground they know how to defend themselves and apply their own submission or choke.
