LAYING TURF IN OUR GARDEN / AMAZING GARDEN TRANSFORMATION!

Hello fyrwyr, welcome back to my youtube channel, welcome to my home because today I'm going I'm going to do a little video in my backyard showing you a little bit of our garden transformation Because this is kind of what's been keeping me busy lately and where I've been. So today is a really exciting day because we have a delivery of our turf, so we're going to lay the lawn today which is quite exciting. It's sitting up there, there it is, sitting up there in a pile waiting for me to try and lay it down. We've spent pretty much all of lockdown trying to clear our garden and get it in a position where we can actually do something about it because it was just full of rubble, so we managed to finally clear it. I don't know if any of my neighbors are out. We picked up all these pallets for free as well from DIY stores and stuff who just don't use them and we're gonna try and make a little sofa, corner sofa out of it because We can't really afford to buy one because they're so expensive, can't they? I'm gonna put on my shoes and I'll come and show you a little tour of what we've done in the garden so far. Right, this is the tree that I brought the other day, I got it from B&Q. It's pretty cute, isn't it? It's only £27. It's a, I'll tell you what it is, a Prunus Accolade, like I said it's £27, it's quite It's not really a good size, but basically it's going to produce loads and loads of cherry blossoms in the springtime so that should be really nice. And then yesterday Tommy picked me up a little flower as well which is this little geranium. So those are the only two plants that we have so far for our garden except of course the The turf we're going to lay today. So you can see that when you, oh so sorry it's like builders now, that's typical, when You come out into our garden there are these pretty like steep stairs which we need to like make all the concrete and stuff and paint it a nice color. So you come up the stairs, then we have this little kind of sunken courtyard here And we made this out of some, what do we use, sleepers, railway sleepers, and these little steps. And this is to retain all the soil that is going to have the lawn and then we have These little raised beds on the side. But we've done all this ourselves, figured it all out, how to do it, what Dave has. And then at the back here it's all a little messy so what we've done is we've put up these trellis like this and then hopefully we'll have a little archway here. And then you come through, we need to sort out this path here, you can see that we're There will be railway sleepers along the sides of the path. And here I think this is where the tree's going to go. And over here we found, we uncovered this little patio area which we're going to clean and sort out and put the pallets on to make a little bit of a pallet sofa. So I'll show you the view from here because I think it's pretty nice. So up here will be our patio area, it's a little bit of a courtyard area and we'll have All the pebbles here and stuff and some plants. And then through there, what? It's not a courtyard area. It's a courtyard, what would you call it? It's a courtyard, it's going to be a courtyard because it's going to be all pebble. And then through there we'll have the lawn and the borders and that's mainly because It's for the kids, really. Kids need a space to run, I'd like to just plant it all up to be honest but you've You have to think about the kids, don't you? Right, I've watched some YouTube videos on how to do this turf but I'm not 100% confident Like with everything but yeah this feels a little scary because we've spent money on this So I do feel like, is that more cat poop? Cats think this is a big toilet at the moment because obviously it's a big toilet, it's A big cat toilet at the moment. Right, I've already leveled it as much as I think I can, I might just go over it with A rake and make sure there are no big pebbles in it or anything, it's slightly slanted up but not too slanted, do you think it's too slanted or are you happy with the slant? Right, so I'm gonna give it a rake over and then I'm gonna put these bags of compost down which is going to act as a bit of a topsoil and then we're going to get rolling out. Like I said I've watched a few YouTube videos and that's about it so we'll see, we'll see How it goes. Bloody trains! I'm sure if you're a regular viewer you know that my leveling skills are not on par with I'm a professional, but I've really, really worked hard, I've trampled it a few times. I've made it as level as I think I possibly can, we're going to put the topsoil on now, The train, the joys of living in London, what a peaceful garden, what a peaceful garden We're making it. I think our soil was pretty bad quality really because nothing much was growing in our garden So we've gone all out on the compost, we've already dug in four bags so now we've got Another three to lay on top. I can't believe it's a good day now. Is there anything more beautiful than a freshly opened pack of compost? - No, I'm not going. Right it's time to lay the turf guys, this is the bit where I've done all the research You can do it, but I still don't know what I'm doing, I hope Dave doesn't hear that. Right I've watched a lot of videos on this, you have to do the edge first, this is what The video said and I don't know if it's right or not. It's just like laying a carpet, it's just like laying a carpet, it's like laying a carpet I think this is right but I don't know. Right the way I'm laying it is like bricks, so we have the edges there and there and Then it's like here so basically I'm laying it out like bricks, I think that's what it said And that's to stop the edges from all coming up and stuff so that's how I'm laying But I'll just keep going, I'm a little afraid of cutting it, that's the part I'm most worried about is about to cut it but we'll keep going, we'll keep going. I've got the zoom on, there's a close-up of your face, I'm not even following along, just seeing How you emotionally respond to this challenge while I'm sitting here filming you. Well, it's got to be a one-person job, two people you know, it's gonna get confusing. I've basically done the garden already anyway, I did the garden anyway, you wouldn't be doing I'd have to tell you if it wasn't clear. Right, I finally got to the part where I have to cut something, so I got my knife. This is the part I'm most nervous about to be honest but luckily the garden's not It's a funny shape so everything I've cut is going to be like a square so technically it shouldn't be I'm not gonna be too hard on you, but you know what I'm like, as I'm learning with all this stuff, whatever. You think it's easy, it's usually a lot harder than you think it is. This is about work, this is beautiful, the way it's coming off is absolutely beautiful, Look at that, flip-flop, nice straight edge. I don't know what that line is doing, he won't bleed, I don't think they like each other Other because he's not going on that one very well, I don't know what to do about that. We haven't even attached our hose to the wall yet so I'm just kind of pulling a hose across The place is fine, but at least we have water, so it's okay. Water, flipping hours to water this bloody, watering is the pain of my life, it really is. I hope you enjoyed this, oh god I'm dripping all over now.
