THOR (2011) | Thor's Hammer Featurette (Behind The Scenes)
Thor is a 2011 American superhero film adapted from the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The main character, Thor, is a brave and powerful but arrogant warrior of the kingdom of Asgard. So, his father, the god Odin, the king of the gods, cast him out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.
THOR (2011) | Thor's Hammer Featurette (Behind The Scenes)
This video is about Thor's Hammer Featurette (Behind The Scenes). The first challenge with a hammer is to work out how to pronounce it. And the second concern with a hammer is what Thor can do with it.
This hammer, named Mjolnir, is an awesome weapon for Thor, extraordinarily powerful. What Thor has been visualized doing in the comics for over 45 years is spectacular stuff. Now when getting more and more acquainted with the details of the comics, the film crew is quite surprised and amazed at how much the hammer can do. Thor can create lightning storms and tornadoes. He can control the elements with the power of a sort of galactic nuclear explosion.
In this video, you will be surprised and have fun with the many things this hammer can do. Thor flies with it, spins around his hand, and off when he goes. He'll throw that hammer no matter what it hits, and it will always come back to him. This has given some of the most iconic and spectacular imagery of the process that the film crew goes through.
For any of the props, Thor’s hammer, in particular, is very long and exciting, and fun. The process of illustration goes through almost 200 drawings. The designers paid a lot of attention to paying homage to the Viking Era, which is all the Norse Mythology. Thor, with his mighty hammer Mjolnir, expresses how the way is going to emanate light from within his hammer and the way the storm is actually going to emanate from his hammer out into the world.
What was the scale of Mjolnir going to be? It started with a base-size hammer with three varieties of weights. First, the stunt stuff for hitting people on screen was kind of more the softer rubber hammers. Second, the close-ups were of a big, shiny, and very heavy kind of hammer, which was eight pounds. Next, the foam hammer gets down to about two and a half pounds. The effect in the movie is to use many more things, and the film crew gets to invest Thor’s weaponry with awesome powers. Even if it's all the way out, it's to Excalibur, the sword in the stone, and has that power.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Clark Gregg, etc. Some of the best and funniest movie moments happen behind the scenes.
