Welcome to the Great Wall of China at Badaling! I expected this UNESCO World Heritage site and Wonder of the World to be amazing. Spectacular even. Descriptions can't really nail down just how breathtaking this marvel is. The Great Wall is more that just great, it's unbelievable. The cost in lives and materials to construct this epic achievement is a stark reminder of history as we enjoy some of the most beautiful views imaginable. Enjoy...we sure did. We key you in to some tips for buying tickets as well and after our wall experience show our favorite place to eat in Beijing.

Take a left out of the train and follow the crowd.
Go up to the Great Wall Village up here.
You can take cable cars or there's a little rail train to go up.
But we're just gonna walk.
We're not even up there yet but we just saw it coming by and it's just so amazing.
It's a Great Wall toad.
It's hanging out in the road.
Don't buy tickets on the way up.
There's a whole bunch of shysters on the train.
There's people wearing official uniforms.
Somewhat official uniforms saying that don't buy tickets anywhere.
But right at the entrance they got the ticket office.
40 yuan per person standard which is right about 5.50 for the US.
Beautiful.
An old infantry adage says just when you think you've gone too far you haven't gone far enough.
Well that has never been truer than here on the Great Wall.
If we keep this up we could be going all day and all the next day and all the next day.
At some point we got to turn around and go back.
Just as far as we go it just keeps getting more.

They have way more energy than us because they are traveling with kids going all over the place.

A really nice surprise has been we've actually had sections of the wall all to ourselves.
Did not expect that to happen.
It's been really cool.
Steeper than it looks.
The south section we literally came to where it said you couldn't go any further
and now we're doing the north section which as you can tell is a bit more crowded.
That completes our Great Wall adventure for today.
That is one of the most awesome hikes ever.
It was amazing.
Now for the walk back down.
That's another UNESCO site off our list.
