The fairy tale genre was greatly influenced by Hans Christian Andersen. "The Snow Queen" was first published in 1844 and is one of Hans Christian Andersen's most well-known fairy stories.
The conflict between good and evil is the story's main theme, as Gerda and her buddy Kai experience it. Joanna Lumley read the story today.
Kai and Gerda live near each other and are close friends. They like spending time together. But one day, a splinter of the devil's mirror pierces Kai and turns his heart into ice. Kai grows cruel and rude and teases his friends.
"The Snow Queen", residing in a land of ice and snow, kidnaps Kai. Loyal Gerda is determined to rescue Kai. She receives assistance from many people, including the bandit, prince, princess, and Sami woman.
Gerda locates Kai at the Snow Queen's palace following a long voyage and a number of misadventures. Gerda's love saves Kai.
Kai and Gerda depart the realm of the Snow Queen and go back to their house. They realize they are no longer children but grown up. They sit by the rose bush in summer.
"The Snow Queen" sends us a message that we must appreciate friendship and memories and know how to live for others. The story is also a song about friendship.
With lovely illustrations and a pretty format, any young readers seeking a story for a wintry Christmas night will love this fairytale of the demonic mirror and the Queen born of snow.
"The Snow Queen" is frequently cited as a primary inspiration for and a forerunner to the 2013 smash hit animated movie Frozen.

Since his books have been translated into more than 160 languages, neither children nor adults, today can claim to be unfamiliar with Andersen's characters.
