The Albanian Alps - Theth to Valbona hike 🇦🇱

So right now I'm in the Albanian Alps and in this video we're gonna explore the mountains of northern Albania. Okay so it's 10 a.m and I'm in northern Albania in the town of Teth. In the center of the town or more of a village next to this pretty little church with some very photogenic dogs over here and we left the town of Shkodër at like 6 45 a.m this morning by a van on a very windy road. There's a nice coffee break in the middle and some gorgeous views. Honestly some of the views were out of this world. Hopefully we'll see something else today that compares with that at least. We were definitely suffering from a bit of motion sickness by the time we got here so glad to be here and today we're gonna do this hike that goes up a thousand meters that way and then goes down to another village called Volbona. This is Clara. Say hi. Hi. She loves being on camera. Totally. She's gonna be in a lot of this video for the rest of the day. No she doesn't. I think it knows they're tourists. They usually have food. It's beautiful. So usually I always have dogs following me on a hike. This time we have a cat following us on the hike. I have like cat hair everywhere. The first part of this hike supposedly very steep but I think that's the steepest part of the whole trail. I'd be less worried about fleas and more about kicks. I wouldn't want to pet them but you can do it on some horses and I'm afraid of them and Clara isn't. Clara do you know what you're doing? Oh they're nice. Clara the horse photographer. Yeah look how cute it is. This is so pretty. This part of the forest is really pretty and according to TripAdvisor. What is this called? The book you? Lonely Planet. Lonely Planet. This was not supposed to be pretty and it's the French Lonely Planet so just information you should have. We're at a cafe. This is a pretty nice view. The sun's finally up and we got some traditional Albanian food that we want to try. Like I don't know do we cut this like that? I don't know how to eat this. It's good? It's sweet. Oh what? I thought it was cheesy. No it tastes like a lot of pancakes stacked on each other. That's like like crepes. How do you do this? Very soft. It's nice. Very. Not compared to my Snickers. I've had three Snickers bars since the morning so this is not as sweet compared to the rest. Okay we're almost at the peak. The donkeys just went past us. The views are looking great. It's really cold and really windy right now. We're at the very peak and I think we see Volbona valley on that side and that's where we're going down to the dry bread. Clara, want to be there? Clara's sitting down because she doesn't like heights. Walk slower or I'll trip and fall and die while I'm trying to film. Higher we are too. So that peak was super crowded and we found this other trail and we came to one and we have it all to ourselves. It's higher, it's better. Clara found it. Honestly it wasn't safe to stand over there. These shots were amazing but this is definitely the most dangerous part of the hike. Now we gotta get down before it gets too dark. Yes let's go. This was so sketchy. Yeah. On the way down it's already starting to get super dark. You think so? Yeah. It's so pretty. Right? This doggy loves us. Okay so we waited too long at the peak and by the time we got back, it's like 9 p.m right now, so we were totally in the dark and we got lost a couple of times in the jungle. Thankfully we had flashlights and we were able to find our way here and now we came to this restaurant that is the only thing open in the town of Volbona and we're gonna try to get some pasta. Okay so we're still in Volbona and it's day two and we're finally seeing this town in some daylight but it's a pretty foggy day so visibility is not as good as yesterday. Still pretty gorgeous though. It's also 9 degrees celsius, it's pretty cold. Okay so today we're trying to go back to Shkodër where we came from yesterday but we don't want to hike up that mountain again and take the same route so we basically took a minivan here and now we're gonna take this ferry that's gonna take us on a three-hour route through this reservoir and then we gotta take another van back to Shkodër but first we gotta get on the ferry which looks pretty crowded with a lot of cars and a lot of people. This is absolutely gorgeous. A small pit stop on the way. I think they're getting flour to this village over here. I am back in Shkodër and I have completed the full loop including the Van to Teth, the hike to Volbona, the van to the ferry, the ferry to Koman and then the van back and it is raining really hard and right now I'm in front of the biggest mosque or one of the most important structures in the town of Shkodër and we're gonna probably get a car and head out of Shkodër soon.
