INSTANT NOODLE Competition in San Diego California

This is a short trip. I'm going to San Diego because I was invited by the Chinese Historical Cultural Museum in San Diego They're hosting a noodle contest and I am gonna be the judge now this museum I've actually seen it when I was in San Diego I didn't get a chance to really look around inside, but it's a really cool institution a lot of interesting historical artifacts I just love places that are in the business of reserving and showcasing Chinese traditional culture also I really love noodles So this should be a really fun weekend get to eat some noodles hang out with some of you guys who are coming out for the event and San Diego is one of my all-time favorite cities in the US. Are you ready? so Delta actually gives you dinner for a cross-country flight I haven't had actual food on a cross-country flight in economy class As long as I can remember, so this is a westbound eastbound So westbound tell em up cheese and fruit sesame noodle salad Yeah, sounds good Whoa Hotel is awesome Whoa What is this what? No way, I just noticed this what This hotel this hotel is Hotel is pretty awesome. Oh Wow Mr.. What is this taste of pinjury? nation's house made barbecued chips Fifth and Rose blue cheese stuffed olives cheese stuffed olives in provisional I Think that's the Ham right there. Seriously. This is pretty pretty great. Welcome. Mr. Chan. No, whoa Macaroons this is way better than chocolate on your pillow I didn't know there were much better things than chocolates on pillows macaroon pillows I think unless a t-bone steak shows up on your pillow. This is the next best thing beautiful bed Got a little a little loungy thing. Oh Beautiful few if that building wasn't there you can watch the Padres game. Let's see All right minibar. We're gonna stay away from that Robe of course. Oh This bathroom is sweet, too Wow Hi little minity kid in this beautiful marble box Body lotion soap toilets shower It's pretty darn nice. Look at this. This is such a nice hotel I think the last time I stayed at a hotel this nice was St. Regis in Singapore. This is this is so good Let's see some all of some chips and ham couple bottles of Fiji water Awesome Barbecue homemade barbecue chips Oh, oh I smacked my hand as soon as I put the chip in my mouth It's like pain and pleasure at the same time these chips are amazing. I mean, I'm not a snack guy typically But these are some crispy crispy chips. They're so thin and light and airy barbecue potato chips taste a little too sweet These are not Real pearl on this tooth pick I might keep that feel like James Bond eating these olives Mm-hmm. No, it's so bad. Oh my gosh tonight. Yes. That's a nice flavor to it Chase it with the chip Need an olive. Oh Man that one salty. I feel like I need like a taco or something to Chase that olive, but oh man, this ham is just sublime This fat on this ham, ah Just kind of you know what it is the flavor I really like about this it kind of tastes like a Chinese fermented sausage It's got a really subtle subtle sweet flavor to a tube No, I did not expect that to be this good. This is a really delicate macaroon Hmm, I guess that's my dinner bottle of water We're on the nightstand Each side and such a giant bed this this bed makes me want to do one thing So tomorrow is the noodle competition this is actually my first time judging a food event and it's kind of like my dream come true because you know when I'm watching chopped or Irish chef, I'm always wishing I was one of the judges sort of happening. Today is the day of the noodle contest. Luckily, it's right next door. That's Curtis It's my friend Winnie Hey, this museum is so cool I just walked past it when I when I come to San Diego back during the days when I would come for the San Diego Comic-con because I used to work in comic books kind of crazy story and a really awesome museum It's my first time actually going inside You guys know I love Chinese culture I love history. This is so cool for me right now. Let's go take a look around No Chinese Museum will be complete without a koi. Oh, they're hungry. They're like swimming at me right now Yeah, they want something. I don't have anything though Yeah, they since I am like all about the food. So they're conjugating but I'm sorry disappoint you guys Confucius of course great philosopher as Terracotta warrior replica, I think it's a replica but this is one of my favorites places from my hometown in Xi'an been there twice Love it. This is what bit was like a hundred two hundred years ago in China got decorative and it's very like nice and secluded and these are the These are the typical pillows. You see they're like cubes It's more comfortable than you might think And it's very private. Excuse me. I think I still got some time before the noodle contest They serve food off this yeah The San Diego even have a Chinatown right now Designated as an Asian thematical district. Yeah for the city So this was right outside this You know, there's saloon. Oh, we open saloon Chinese people open a saloon. We cowboy in it Yes, you saying this is a very famous battle Let me guess so I see Joe Jones. Oh Joe's alone. Yes, so I I can tell this is from the warring three kingdoms between the shoe army and the way army probably Right. I do know my history a little bit. Yeah Not not just a head That he's protecting you Yeah, I know it. I know this story very very well. Yes Yeah, this is this is a classics tale from Three Kingdoms donut in San Diego They said the judges are here listen, so there's a certificate So the concept of this cook-off is the chefs are gonna take regular Ramen noodles and turn it into something Extraordinary which is that's which is the funnest thing. All right, the noodle competition is about to take off. Let's go meet the contestants Because they got some really cool things going on right now Rom loop here, wait, wait, wait, what is it? What's a lumpia? First of all? And the goal of this contest is really crazy We're taking this ramen and making it awesome because this on its own not so awesome. We're gonna go some more stuff Tonight I'm gonna try this place Rana's Mexico City cuisine Back cheese and chorizo this restaurant so far so good Cheese shrimp chicken cactus Chipotle beans steak This is a three-color Supposed to be the best thing on this How good is it? Really good Some of the best you ever had Yeah Such a lot is great. You guys should come to this restaurant. I love going outside in the morning in San Diego Sorry last night after we ate I literally got back to my hotel and just blanked out My flight is in a few hours. It's gonna go get something to eat and back to New York That's a goatee hash sriracha over medium eggs This is a pretty easy breakfast Some beef, some eggs, some potatoes, some sriracha Wow Did you eat garlicky? I mean you can eat the eggs, why can't you eat the wings? What a friendly place Breakfast is great Not your typical steak and eggs, but that should help put me out when I get on the plane But what an amazing weekend here in San Diego.
