Old Town was the first permanent Spanish settlement in California and offers a glimpse into colonial life with more than 20 buildings dating from the 1800s. Many colorful shops, restaurants and music attract visitors and locals alike. The State Park includes 32 historic sites and shops, as well as the Presidio, the site of the first mission. Old Town is considered the birthplace of California. It was here that Father Junipero Serra established the first mission in 1769.
