Good morning. We are in Grand Teton National Park.
We're at Jenny Lake. We're going to do the Cascade Canyon Trail.
It's an out and back 10 miles. First we're going to take a ferry across
the lake. It cuts off two miles each way
otherwise it'd be a 14 mile out and back. The ferry costs $18
round trip per adult. Look what we can see. From all the reviews we've read
this is a very very popular trail. The ferry opens at 7 a.m so we wanted to
make sure we got on that first boat.
We're in our van cooking breakfast having a good time. We're like the first
people here and all of a sudden the parking lot's just filling up. We're
like we gotta go.
So we didn't know this. The first boat of the day
if you're paying cash it's five dollars. It goes from $18 to $5. Always carry cash.
What a deal. All the hikes we've done we try to change it up but even walking
through different forests it's all just a little bit different.
Different terrain, different trees, different animals.
It's never the same.
We have been waiting for this for months.
Now in a quarter in we've seen a deer, a black bear,
and two moose. You don't have to go very far
to see what you want apparently.
There are also wild raspberries all over this trail.
If some look good I'll probably eat some.
It's still good. Okay try not to pick the ones closest to
the ground. They're a little a little dusty. Also make sure you know
what you're eating before you eat it. We're no experts but I know what the
raspberries are. We are just surrounded by mountains right
now. Got them going this way and then you
turn and they're there too.
Just would like to make clear our cameras
can only capture so much. This is something you need to experience
in person. Come out to a national park and hike
and see it for yourself. You will never regret it.
Any guide that you read or any information
and big signs say that you should bring bear spray with you
when you are in Tetons, Yellowstone, and a lot of other back
country hikes that we probably should have had it but we didn't. We bought ours
at Albertsons grocery store. It's widely available.
We paid fifty dollars but we have seen
a lot of people carry it and it's just a precaution
that you should have and if you do come across
a bear and it does charge you're going to be thankful that you have it.
I also know that there are outdoor outfitters that
rent them so if you don't want to pay the fifty dollars and you're just gonna
use it for one hike do a little bit of research
and find an outfitter that rents it.
We've made it. It was about five miles. It took us two hours
exactly. There's lots of other trails that you can do from here. There's paint
brush. There's other lakes but this is our end point.
This was an enjoyable hike. Cascade Canyon, the waterfall
is your end point. It's not a mountaintop
but we also didn't work very hard to get here and it was beautiful
the entire way.
That was one of the easiest long hikes we've ever done.
You go up about 1,500 feet in the first mile and then it's even and flat and
beautiful for the next four miles.
Just to recap on the trail. We did 10 miles pretty much exactly in a little
over four hours. Now we have to make some lunch,
clean up breakfast and head to Yellowstone.
you
