How to Measure Your Backsplash

This video will show you what you’ll need to take accurate measurements to ensure you order the right amount of tile.
What you need: a measuring tape, a pen or pencil, note pad and a calculator to check your math.

👉 Step 1: Measure the area.
Measure the length and width of the backsplash area with a measuring tape. Make sure to always round up with your measurements.
You should measure twice to confirm the correct dimensions and write down measurements as you go.
The square feet of the backsplash = The width x the height / 144

👉 Step 2: Measure the trim.
If we decide to put trim on all three sides of our backsplash. Measuring trim is done in linear feet, instead of square feet. This time you'll simply add the lengths of each side and divide by 12. Again, we have to divide by 12 to get the feet measurement, not inches.
When ordering tile, it's important to count for unexpected things like breakage or all the cuts you'll be making. You don't want to be stuck short on tile and have to order more. As color can vary from one production line to the next, so we always recommend ordering at least 10% extra.
