New York USA 🌲 HIKING around Ithaca 🌲 VLOG #163

That's the bug into my face. Getting swarmed by gnats. We're in Ithaca, New York. Last time you saw us we were in Lake Placid. We stopped off and visited with some friends. Had a fantastic time. Didn't need to video that. I saw Ithaca on a t-shirt in a Nike running ad like 25 years ago when I was a runner and uh always kind of wanted to come here. Aunt Janice and Uncle Keith they said they've always wanted to come here so I was like hey we're in that area let's do it. We're hiking down the Cascadia Gorge Trail right now. It's uh pretty cool for an in-town hiking trail. So far we haven't met any people. Yay! One of the fun parts about this trip is on Google we put no tolls. It takes you down these little roads sometimes dirt roads and we've been having so much fun doing that. Occasionally closed roads. Yes. If we hadn't and we did the tolls they'd just take us down the highways the whole time. We have had to pay one toll. Well they got our license plate. We'll see. We couldn't get around it but other than that it's been great. Definitely more journey than destination for us. Which has been fun because if we decide we want a beignet let's say let's go get a beignet. Yes if you want a beignet. These gnats are insane. Well it's definitely changed our plans as has been mentioned by everybody in the world. We're really enjoying the opportunity to see some more of the United States and take those back roads who wouldn't have taken. A lot of really beautiful countryside and cool people out around the U.S. Well the trail along the gorge was closed we're off to find another way. That's the trail right there that we were planning on hiking. We found another one. This one's heading down that's a good sign. We're doing our best to get a view of this awesome walk but if you can see the trail we were going to go is right down there along all that. Still it's really beautiful up there. Well the gorge trail was closed to renovate the creek wall so we didn't get to go down there. But it was a nice walk around the top. It was beautiful. It was shaded. My favorite. It was a beautiful walk even though it was closed. But it would have been magnificent if it wasn't been because we could see over the side and it was beautiful down there. Probably gonna grab a coffee most likely from Starbucks. Life's rough. I know it's terrible. Keep a hell of a pace. I know we have hot dogs on this side and bureaus on this side. Yeah we weren't planning on doing street food today. Well today we've decided to pick a place and we're going to Lickbrook Falls. And more importantly eight years ago today Katie made me the luckiest guy ever. Oh you may be the happiest woman ever. Happy anniversary. Happy anniversary. That's it. That's the full celebration. You can see it all. It's so nice to spend our anniversary walking in the forest. Something we both love to do. Oh look at that. That's beautiful. There's supposed to be some waterfalls down here. Well we haven't seen any waterfalls yet. Why are we heading back up the trail so soon? Because I don't think I locked the car door. Watch out for poison ivy. Wait poison what? What's poison ivy look like? We forgot bug juice again. Gotta start remembering that. Gonna get wet now. Holy cow. This is not safe. Hey Kate where you going? So yesterday we had a long walk and I picked this one today because it was only 2.4 miles. But it's all up and down. They don't tell you that. And that was 2.4 miles one way. One mile elevation gain. Water flow. Those would be epic. Well that is one heck of a view for our anniversary. Yes and water which is what I wanted for our wedding. You got it in a deluge. But it's true I didn't specify when I said I wanted it to be around water. The creek running by our wedding overflowed. And everybody got drenched but we all had a good time. Great time. We can still talk about it today. Best wedding ever where I was completely soaked. Yeah it was awesome. Love you. Wouldn't change a thing ever. Nope. Well if there's more water the falls would be gorgeous as it is the cliffs that are kind of damp are gorgeous. Beautiful. Beautiful and beautiful. Beautifully beautiful. My only word. What's the matter there cardio queen? Little hike. All right off we go. Hey. Oh that was a great hike but we were getting swarmed by gnats and mosquitoes. We had to run to the car and pile in so they didn't follow us in. But it was beautiful. A lot of work coming back up. Well worth it. Yeah. Don't drink your water on the way down. You need it on the way up. Luckily we had two bottles. I'll show you since the awesome day. Awesome hike. Yeah. Couldn't imagine a better way to spend our anniversary. Or any other day. Love you sweetie. Love you. Off we go. You know we're budget travelers and to keep food costs a $16 rice cooker and we make rice. We have two dollars chicken. We add some soy sauce substitute and a little spice sriracha and that's what we have for our meals. And we have this travel kettle which is fantastic because you know we're all about our coffee. We've gotten used to instant coffee. This is a liquid aminos. It doesn't have such a bite as soy sauce. This stuff is the key. So enough of this. It's time to eat. And in 20 minutes we have lunch. Keep drinking this coffee. No that was good. That was good. That was good.
