ABOUT US Hi y'all! We’re Adam and Kathryn, an adventurous married couple living in a Sprinter van! You can often find us scoping out the best coffee shops, eating tacos, climbing mountains, cuddling our fur child Kona, and dreaming about Hawaii.
We created Adventures of A+K to help busy, budget conscious, and adventurous travelers maximize their vacation time and money wherever they go through detailed travel guides, vlogs, and resources. Our goal: to help you spend less time (and stress!) planning your trip and more time enjoying it!
We will be sharing 1-2 travel vlogs a week, so please SUBSCRIBE to follow along on our adventures! :) ____ Note: We’ve linked a handful items so you can see exactly which products we take with us. Full disclosure--if you click on these links and make a purchase on Amazon, we get a small commission at no extra cost to you. We will only ever recommend products we truly love, actually use during our adventures, and think you can benefit from too!
We bought a van!
Let's rewind a little bit.
Alright, here we go!
Holy crap!
This Mercedes is ours! Officially!
Super exciting!
A little scary, but...
We have a lot of work ahead of us.
We're gonna get started tomorrow.
Hopefully we don't mess up too much.
Sorry in advance if you guys think we do stuff wrong.
We are not professionals.
We are pumped!
Dream come true!
Wooo!
Our home on wheels!
I know you can't see anything.
But it's our first
few feet of driving
in the Sprinter!
We're gonna be screaming for a while.
This is pretty crazy.
Thanks Adam for driving.
Dude, this is sick!
I'm too scared to drive it right now.
Maybe I'll test it out in a parking lot first.
Wooo!
So you may be wondering,
how the heck did this even happen?
Why is this happening?
So basically, we moved from Texas to Seattle
two and a half years ago because we wanted to
live life more outdoors and have more adventure.
We moved to Seattle, absolutely
fell in love with the Pacific Northwest
and hiking and road tripping and all that fun stuff.
So much so that we're like,
why can't we do this all the time?
So, around Labor Day, we're hiking
and we're like, we just want to be full time travelers.
How do we make that happen?
So we were thinking, do we get a trailer?
Like a van or an RV?
Since we have Kona, we can't just go abroad
for a year, which is what we would love to do.
But we have Kona, we want to have her with us
and we also need full time income.
So we ended up deciding that we were going to buy a van
so we can work full time from the van
we can travel all around the US
and we're going to build it ourselves.
Yeah, I remember that weekend.
I was like, let's buy it now, let's get going now.
But probably thought it better to wait a little bit.
Make sure we actually wanted to do it.
We gave ourselves like six months to
make sure we were really dedicated to this plan.
Yeah, so the plan is to start building
on it today.
So we're going to cut into the side and cut into the roof.
I'm really nervous about that, but
here we go, jumping in full bore.
So yeah, I'm starting
building now until June.
I'm flying down a couple times
to help build it out.
Catherine will be flying down every few weeks.
But we're doing it in Texas
because one, we don't have
the knowledge really or skills.
Not at all. We're learning a lot
but still. Yeah, we're slowly getting
more and more confident, but
mainly we have the space and materials
and knowledge of our dad
here in Austin
to help us with the build. So he's going to be
a huge resource. Shout out to Tom.
Thanks Tom, thanks Dad.
So yeah, that's the plan so far.
Yeah, so we'll be building it out in Austin
which is why we came to buy it in Austin
because I know that might be a little confusing.
Yeah, so I'll be here a lot. Adam won't be
here that much, so a lot of the videos
from our build will be of me, so sorry.
That's why Adam will be missing.
I'm going to miss having him here.
It's going to be a really cool learning experience for both of us.
It's a little scary.
So yeah, as we said, we're starting the build today.
In our next video, we'll share more about
the layout of the van, but it's definitely going to be
a more luxurious kind of van.
We want to be comfortable. If we're going to be living and working
in this full time, we want to be comfortable.
So yeah, we're about to go get started.
We're really excited to have you guys along for the ride.
This is going to be a really crazy six months.
We're going to be documenting the whole thing.
If you want to learn a little bit more about our plans,
we'll link to our blog below.
We answer some of the FAQs we get
from people when we mention that we're doing this.
We're excited to have you guys follow along.
We want to give a shout out to Mercedes Benz of Georgetown,
especially our man Tim and Gabriel.
They were both very awesome to work with.
We've been talking with Tim for months
to make sure we'd have a van when we flew down this weekend.
He was just the nicest guy.
Thank you, Tim. I hope you watch this eventually.
I sent him our link.
You were very awesome.
They're a great group of guys.
They hooked us up.
Treated us great.
Do you want to go get started?
I'm excited.
