DAY 3 Three Nights Alone In The Rhinog Mountains - Snowdonia Wilderness Backpacking Adventure!
Good morning world. Morning. I had my best night's sleep ever while camping last night so I slept
for eight hours. I think I went to sleep about 11 and then I woke up at five with chills because I'd
like slid off my mat and was just laying on the floor. So I sorted all that out and went back to
sleep again until about quarter past seven. Yeah that's amazing. I'm still half asleep now.
I woke up with really bad hunger pain so it does show how active yesterday was. I'm never usually
that hungry first thing. Right let's get some breakfast going so let's see what's left in the
food bag. It's going down isn't it? Sunday. I believe it's Sunday already. I'm all packed up.
I've just filmed a gear video which I will put up separately so if you want to know everything I
on this trip have a look at that. Hopefully you'll find lots of news. It's got to be getting
on for a mid or late morning now so I'm going to head that direction back to the sort of a
little waterfall, rockfall thing. So I'm going to refill my water there. It doesn't get much more
rugged than that does it? This is so much easier going than yesterday was. I don't want to speak
too soon but you can see there's quite a visible path. Weirdly enough on the OS maps there's no
paths marked here but on the places where there are no paths they've got paths marked
so just bear that in mind. It might not be what you expect it to be. If you can see right down
there there's a tiny little car park. That's where my car is. That and that little lake you see the
edge of is that lake there. Llyn Cwmbychan. Again apologies for my absolutely shocking Welsh.
So that's where we're headed today. A little remoteness update. I've not seen another person
for 24 hours so yeah I mean there's not a lot of places you can go and say that. A pretty steep
descent now down here but it looks okay. Just got to make sure everything that you go down
you can get back up again so if you end up cut off and I bet you can't get down you can always go
back up. I think this will be okay. I mean it is really steep but the good thing is you can see
there's a definite path here which is really reassuring. It's better than yesterday when
I just constantly felt like I was going wrong even though I wasn't because I thought
surely surely no one actually does this. Right I'm sliding down this bit on my butt.
Looks like heading over there and then down to the valley. I'm down from the mountains.
It's around two o'clock. Just having my lunch and then we're gonna head in that direction
and check out the lake over there, have a look in the woods
and decide where to make camp for this evening. I'm just hopping around along these rocks to see
if I can find anywhere that might be a good place for the night. Hey geese. I'm gonna put my tent
just down there. There's a couple of rocks underneath but for the most part I think that'll
do and the sun's gonna set over there. Not for a few hours yet but it's gonna be absolutely
beautiful. Okay map time. I thought now that I've done the whole route I could just go through what
it's all like. Park in here. This is fine going up here. The Roman steps. It's hard going just
because it's uphill and it's sort of bouldery but it's fine. Good fun. It's really easy to
see where you're going. Can't get lost really. So carry along here. This bit of path is a really
good path. That's easy walking through here and it's easy walking down here as well all the way
down to here. This is all downhill. Easy easy and then it starts getting sort of off around here.
Sort of boggy and rocky but it's still downhill and then it's here. This stretch, oh my god,
is really hard work and this up here is just constant uphill, uphill, uphill, uphill, uphill,
uphill until you get up to 500 meters which is the back slope of Rhinelg Fowl and then you start
coming down again which is all scrambling. This is not, because it looks like a straight line,
there's no path whatsoever. You just use your map and compass. It's boggy, rocky, holes in the ground,
crazy. This bit going down is actually a lot easier although you're scrambling. It's a lot
easier than going up. Yeah from here to here I found that really really hard. That's really good
fun going down there sort of next to the waterfall river sort of thing coming down. That's fine past
that lake there. That's where we stayed last night and that's good fun coming down here as well and
nice little walk back round again. So tonight I've been round and I'm about here. Yeah that's where
we're camping. There. So yeah, done the whole circular. Amazing. I've not seen another person
since. Okay so the last person I saw walking about was about here. So I saw a couple people coming up
here on the first day. I saw a few hikers around this bit on the second day and since then all the
way around here I've not seen a single person. So that's how remote it is here. Just get to enjoy
the evening now. Sun's going down. The tent's out. The end of another absolutely beautiful day.
The whole three days has just been incredible. Honestly you can't believe it's happened this way.
It's just been perfect. Even the crappy bit up that massive ascent yesterday. Even though I was
effing and blinding all the way up. In retrospect it was amazing. So it's the last night here tonight
and then back to reality tomorrow. Although this seems more like reality to me.
Three in the morning.
Good morning wild ones. I've only had a few hours sleep tonight. I'm having some allergy issues. I
can't breathe properly and I woke up at half three in the morning super hungry again. So I've had
something to eat. I'm going to stick a coffee on and get sorted.
Just found one of my guidelines on the floor
and I wasn't even using these last night. There was no wind so it was just hanging.
On the tent. So I'm assuming something's chewed through it.
Goodbye beautiful place. Time to go home. It's taken me nearly four years of
wild camping to get confident enough to take on something like this. It's been one of the
best things I've ever done. I'll remember it forever. Honestly when I'm old and I look back
on my life I'm not going to remember scrolling through social media or watching TV or doing
the housework. I'm going to remember going on adventures and seeing beautiful epic things and
having my resolve tested and just being filled back up again with all the
majesticness that all this has to offer. So yeah I hope you get to go on your own adventure
and thank you so much for watching. I'll see you again soon.
